I think I have died and gone to heaven. This home I spotted on sköna hem is so incredibly beautiful with floor to ceiling architectural moldings (including a coffered ceiling unlike any I have ever seen) and when painted dark grey, they are even more dramatic and modern. Add in some modern furniture and lighting (the owners clearly have a thing for Knoll’s Saarinentulip tables and Flos lights) and this is a total dream.

Victorian chic in a historic landmark home

Posted on Wed, 4 Mar 2020 by KiM

Dream home alert!!! I am absolutely head over heels in love with this project by Seattle-based designer Michelle Dirkse. Victorian chic is what I would call this. “We want it to look like a haunted mansion.” Our clients’ request was one that we had never heard before and we were excited to explore it. The historic landmark home needed major work on the second floor. We completely re-developed the floorplan for the existing 6 bedroom 2 bath layout. By relocating walls with the help of a structural engineer and converting one of the bedrooms into an appropriately sized master bathroom, the new floorplan served the clients’ as they needed. With no plans to have others live in the home with them, we were able to convert 2 rooms into a large art studio with a lounge area. Another room was converted to a den, one to a dressing room and the last to the master bathroom. (The bathroom – OMGGGG!!!)

Anne Hepfer update

Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2020 by KiM

It has been several years since we featured the work of Toronto-based designer Anne Hepfer (here and here). Her signature style of layering palettes of colour and contrast and luxurious finishes is still very much apparent. Such gorgeous spaces.

A uniquely opulent Madrid home

Lorenzo Castillo is an antiques dealer and interior designer from Madrid and I think he’s my new hero. Jo featured his caramel/black/white home back in 2015 here. I was recently on his website and found another iteration of his home, as seen in this first group of photos. When doing some googling to learn more about his home I found this article in Elle Decor featuring more of his home (yet another earlier iteration?) from 2012 (with photos by Simon Upton), which below are the second set of photos. In any case, I am completely smitten with all of the colours, patterns, layers, textures, styles. It is an eclectic lovers bible on how to nail maximalism.

Light and airy elegance in Madrid

A cool oasis, a retreat from the heat and bustle of the Madrid calles. Filtered light through floaty fabric, coffered ceilings and archways washed in white. Monochrome splashed with rich oriental blue. Sophisticated and welcoming. Conde de Aranda by Madrid-based Estudio Maria Santos.
