A designer’s family home

Posted on Tue, 8 Nov 2016 by midcenturyjo

Can a family home be seriously sexy? It can if it belongs to interior designer and owner of interiors boutique Pieces, Lee Kleinhelter. Oh my! Sleek contemporary lines with more than a nod to its historical suburb and all with the glamorous, sophisticated vintage vibe that Atlanta, Georgia based Kleinhelter does so well.

Lavishly French

Essentially the opposite of my last post which was modern and minimalist, this home is about as grand, lavish and French as it gets! The French Rooms is available as a location space through lordshippark.com and is two rooms occupying the reception floor of an imposing Victorian villa. Furnished with the finest French antiques, opulent fabrics and exquisite treasures, it’s not exactly decor I would want to live with 24/7 but I sure would love a weekend visit – without the herd of cats!

It may be perfectly formed It may be stylish. They may compare it to Coco Chanel. A little black dress. One thing is for sure. This Potts Point, Sydney apartment (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a prime location) has a high end couture price tag. $3.75 million AUD. Yes that’s millions. Gasp. I just choked on my Chanel pearl necklace. Link here will it lasts.

Fern Santini – cove house

Posted on Tue, 10 Jun 2014 by KiM

What a weekend retreat this would be! A tract house on a verdant cove on Lake Austin was nearly awash in bad seventies architecture and interior design. But the site was incomparable, with the lake fronting two sides of the property. The new owners loved the location and even wanted to save the house, which spoke to them about casual lakeside living. Furman+Keil Architects rendered a stunning renovation to the wood and glass building, turning it into an indoor-outdoor house that’s perfect for entertaining both formally and informally. Fern Santini played up the new architecture with elegantly relaxed furniture and an expertly curated array of contemporary art by local artists. Touches of absolute luxury—such as plaster walls in the master bedroom, all-out glamour in the gold-and-white tiled master bath, and a Kyle Bunting rug in the dining room—are reminders that being casual doesn’t preclude being very very stylish.

Laplace

I thought I would revisit the work of Parisian architecture and design firm Laplace since it has been about a year since Jo featured their work. Their aesthetic is eccentric and a glam version of modernism which lends itself so well to the absolutely stunning architecture (first few photos – *GASP*) that can be found in Parisian apartments. And I’m kind of loving the bizarre art installation in the photo above.
