Heaven on the hilltop

Posted on Fri, 30 Nov 2018 by midcenturyjo

“Architecture meets the art of living in this extraordinary, contemporary three-bedroom home comprised of a plinth and pavilion structure nestled into the northern California nature. An array of sliding glass panels retracts completely into the home’s core, dematerializing the structure into a native-oak-strewn ridge.

Bridging architectural innovation with day-to-day functionality and family living, the interiors are accented with warm finishes, elemental materials and personal accessories. Anchoring the highly edited spaces, custom furnishings are crafted with exacting artisanship. Interiors are both timeless and welcoming.”

I was going to string along some totally inadequate descriptions which included words like fabulous and amazing but I don’t have to. The designer’s own description and the photos tell it all. The only thing I would like to add is WOW! Larkspur Hilltop by Nicole Hollis.

A designer’s home in a Swiss castle

Posted on Mon, 19 Nov 2018 by KiM

I know I am not the only one who dreams of living in a castle (France perhaps?), and I recently discovered a designer who is living my dream. Jorge Canete lives in a Swiss castle built in 1725 called le château de Saint Saphorin sur Morges and it truly is a vision from my dreams. Given its appearance inside, I would say it is something Jorge dreamt of and was able to bring to life. Books float in mid-air, a pendant light mimics a cloud, keys dangle from a crystal chandelier, pages torn from books flutter against walls….it is only missing a princess. (Photos from Jorge’s website and this feature in Côté Maison with photos by Jean-Marc Palisse)

(for more of Jorge’s work I featured this project last month in case you missed it)

Neutral nirvana

Posted on Fri, 16 Nov 2018 by midcenturyjo

Perched high on the hill above the harbour in Gaeta in the Lazio region of Italy is a neutral nirvana. A monochromatic palette with the attention on textural contrast and natural finishes is cool and chic. Smooth sophistication by Rome-based architect and designer Stefano Dorata.

More from Timothy Godbold

A sprawling Bridgehampton house and the stylish curation of designer Timothy Godbold translates to a traditional vernacular mixed with clean modern lines, vintage with high end, natural materials, effortless sophistication and a casual summertime chic. It’s my Hamptons dream not some clichéd nightmare. (You can see my previous post on Timothy’s work here.)

Stalking on a Saturday

Posted on Sat, 10 Nov 2018 by midcenturyjo

I’m stalking in the Melbourne suburb of Elsternwick, a Victorian-era residence that has been renovated and extended. The light grey rendered facade gives just a hint of the modern house behind the historic walls. Open plan living, huge walls of glass and of course that inside outside living that Australians crave in their homes. Link here while it lasts.
