Ohlhausen DuBois Architects have taken a 1950’s ranch house and integrated a new glass pavilion and landscaping to create a home that delights and welcomes. Indoor living spaces now transition easily to the outdoors through a series of terraces, gardens and pool. The house is about mass and volume, light and transparency, solidity and retreat while reaching out to its location. Simple. Elegant. Satisfying and inspiring. Milillo Residence, Sands Point, NY.

Another project by Auckland architects Crosson Clarke Carnachan Architects. I couldn’t help myself. I love their work. New Zealand is such a beautiful country with architecture that celebrates the land of the long white cloud. This alteration and addition to a Queenstown house sits comfortably within its stunning surrounds. Stone and glass and metal. Areas for communing and others for cocooning. Luxury and practicality and all with that view. God’s own country I believe.

I was really taken by the portfolio of Amsterdam-based architecture firm Clijsters when I happened upon it while googling blog stuff and things. It’s modern and minimal but warm and a bit rustic. Gorgeous wood beams, flooring and cabinetry keeps the spaces from feeling cold. And HELLO – check out the fire pit platform thing! Sweet!

I am mesmerized by the portfolio of Swedish photographer Björn Lofterud. The way he captures a space is pure perfection. Even a simple, minimalist room becomes dramatic and magical at the hands of Björn. (P.S. I am SO smitten with the idea of black stained wood panelling for an exterior.)

Natural light. That lovely filtered light that wakes you through the filmy curtains. The strong shaft of bright light that moves across your kitchen table as the day ages. It’s warm and sweet, soft and welcoming. I love to see rooms captured in natural light. Like a beautiful face without makeup. Real and lovely. No artifice, loads of personality. I’m really liking photographer Simon Griffith‘s photographs. The rooms are welcoming and gentle. No special effects. Just beautiful spaces captured beautifully.
