It is about colour and pattern, fabrics and finishes, detail and layering. It is a fresh and vibrant twist on traditional and classic. If the bleached out, overexposed, white, black and wood of Scandi design is leaving you wanting more then drink in the designs of Ashley Whittaker. (And even more in Kim’s previous post.)

… and fun and graphic and bold. The showroom for KCL Agencies by Sydney based Designers in the City is big on impact. Pantone’s 2013 colour of the year is the star in this monochromatic scheme with the emerald green playing perfectly against the black and white backdrop. Bold pattern wows on arrival but the showroom is relatively calm after climbing the stairs, allowing the company’s product to shine. I think this time I really am allowed to say the colour pops.,. and punches and hits and zings.

Layers of colour and pattern are expertly combined with texture and styles. Modern meets vintage and traditional. Floral flirts with geometric and colours are at one time clean and cool and at another warm and earthy. Silk sits with sisal and wool washes across vintage vinyl. Pillows are plumped with down and strewn here and there are piles of books and simple floral arrangements. Casually elegance imbued with comfort. Sink into a sofa and relax. Beautiful homes by Boston based Hudson Interiors.

As promised, here are some of my favourite spaces from Jimmy Schönning‘s portfolio.

I love everything about this kitchen – the colour scheme, the black tiles, the massive vintage light fixture, the table and bench, the fun DIY dining space lighting, the massive knob on the fridge…the only problem is I would lose my sh*t over trying to keep everything clean with all that open storage.

I love huge decks. LOVE. The table is amazing. I want my next house to have a black exterior. And the number on the door is graphic and cool.

Everyone has had these ugly/boring mirrored sliding closets in at least one place they’ve lived…what a simple and effective way to de-gross them.

Beautiful colours and rustic vibe. I love burlap/linen fabrics. Especially when wrinkled.

It’s been a while since I first blogged the sweet pad of Swedish stylist/designer Jimmy Schönning, and I think an update is in order. His work is fabulous as always, if not better! Jimmy is obsessed with black, white and green interiors…and plants. Nothing wrong with this combo – it’s fresh, modern and timeless. I’ve saved some favourite spaces of his for a post later today so stay tuned!
