Locanda La Gelsomina – a hotel in Malta

Posted on Thu, 13 Jul 2017 by KiM

A huge thanks to Steven, who reached out to us recently about his beautiful boutique concept hotel in Malta called Locanda La Gelsomina. What I would do to get a plane trip to Malta to be able to visit in person! The restored structure was built in the early 1500’s and contains 4 suites decorated with antiques from places like Mongolia and Birma. It also houses a teahouse and a shop carrying exotic trinkets, home accessories and furnishings. Sounds and looks like heaven!

The Chequit

Is it just me or is this week d-r-a-g-g-i-n-g along? I just can’t take anymore. Time for a virtual getaway and since summer has just begun in the northern hemisphere how about we run away to the Hamptons? To Shelter Island to be precise. I’ve booked us into the quaint but cool boutique inn The Chequit. Trad with a twist and a soothing pink, yellow and grey palette… inside that is. The exterior screams summer in simple white and green, its porches filled with wicker furniture and pops of bright colour.

Nantucket dreaming

From its dark panelled public areas and quirky maritime touches to its light and breezy bedrooms with layered bed linens from John Robshaw and Les Indiennes, Greydon House on the island of Nantuket off Cape Cod  is the perfect virtual getaway for this hump day Wednesday. I’m fantasizing about strolling through the boutique shops in the morning followed by a long beach walk, warming up by a crackling fire with a drink and a dog eared book before by a fabulous dinner in the restaurant. With interiors by Roman and Williams I don’t think I want to wake up from this lovely daydream.

South Africa is on my travel bucket list, and this beautifully renovated 1950’s 7 bedroom guesthouse in Stellenbosch is accommodations I could definitively see myself really enjoying. Twice Central is owned by Ané Spies, Liesl Swart and Mandi Smit and they did a wonderful job making this a comfortable, casual and contemporary getaway.

Modern pastels

I’m still reeling from the crowded chaos of my Christmas shopping. It’s time for another getaway to calm my jangled nerves and as for those of you facing the long, bleak hours of a hump day at work I’m guessing you’d like a virtual escape too. How about the soothing pastel prettiness of London’s Leman Locke Hotel by Grzywinski+Pons? I love the play of powder-puff pastels against the raw concrete and the modern minimalism. Meet you in the bar for a drink. Something pink perhaps?
