Casa do conto

Posted on Tue, 4 Jun 2013 by KiM

A Brazilian reader named Mabel was fortunate enough to spend 4 days last month at this magnificent hotel in Porto, Portugal called Casa do Conto. It is a restored 19th-century bourgeois home that has been modernized and simplified. It is stunning. Shades of grey, white and black, concrete and unembellished walls. I would love to stay a while in a hotel like this, to see how I would feel in an environment this modern and minimal, imagining it as my home. I adore spaces like this but am not quite sure I could live like this long term. In any case, if I ever have the opportunity to visit Porto, I would gladly stay here. 🙂

Hotel Alexandra

A big thanks to one of our readers, Kris from Vancouver, who just got back froma month in Europe (hate you!). Kris spent a bit of time in Copenhagen and stayed at this incredible hotel called Hotel Alexandra. It’s filled with classic Danish furniture and is an absolute dream for anyone out there like me who has a soft spot for anything Danish. I’m talking about the Pelican chair by Finn Juhl, Arne Jacobsen – clocks, Swan + Egg chair, Hans Wegner Teddy Bear chair, Børge Mogensen chairs, a Verner Panton suite…and SWEET vintage posters!

Copa Luxury Beach House

Take me away. Please, please take me away. It’s Monday. I’m swamped. I can’t remember when I last had a day off and I just want to melt into a comfy chair, read a soppy book (really just fall asleep) and forget all the stress and deadlines. Here. Here is perfect. Copa Luxury Beach House. I don’t need to weave a story. The pictures tell it all. Literally.

Villa Can Mar

Ibiza is on my top 5 list of places to visit. I would lose my sh*t if I was able to visit and stay in a villa like this. Villa Can Mar is the absolute epitome of Ibiza, zen-inspired style. Achingly cool, this contemporary and minimalist four bedroom home – with its razor sharp, clean, white lines and bold splashes of colour – comes complete with stellar ocean views and famous Ibiza sunsets. Having been created by merging two separate duplexes by JUMA architects in 2012, Villa Can Mar offers ingenious flexibility: certain spaces can be closed off or reconfigured to suit guests’ needs. Deeply glamorous, close to the hub of Ibiza’s action and a stone’s throw from some of the island’s finest beaches, this luxury Ibiza villa can be rented via Paradizo Private Collection.

Ottmanngut

Take me away to an historic family home. Fill it full of cherished antiques, some Biedermeier, some Jugendstil with a mix of modern and some rustic stone. Surround it with working vineyards and place it on the slopes of the South Tyrol in Italy and quite frankly I’d be in heaven. For when your hotel needs that personal touch, like staying with family friends… the Ottmanngut.
