A conceptual apartment – dark and industrial

Posted on Tue, 14 Jul 2015 by KiM

I have such respect for people who are talented in the area of graphics. I had to take a graphics course in college for my computer science diploma and it was BRUTAL (you have no idea how long it took me to create a 3D cube and make it rotate). Denis Krasikov is not only a very talented CG artist but his interior design concept for this masculine, industrial apartment for a chief editor of a Russian gaming magazine is equally as impressive. And yes, I love the hallway tile. 🙂

Clapton Warehouse

A second warehouse today. A refurbishment of an existing space to open it up, adding drama through a folded steel staircase rising to a mezzanine level and large windows bathing it in natural light. The colour palette is restrained and references the building’s industrial past. Clapton Warehouse by UK firm Sadie Snelson Architects.

Apartment on Leningradsky Prospekt

I wanted to share this apartment in Russia with you, because it is a wonderful example of modern, minimalist architecture done right in a small space. While fairly simple in its design, the black steel wall/windows is a DREAM, with white painted brick, concrete ceiling, sleek cabinetry and flooring, and the deep window sills all work so well together. I LOVE it….except maybe the hammock. I would prefer a sofa. 🙂 Great job Crosby Studios!

The element of surprise

Posted on Thu, 9 Apr 2015 by KiM

I love the element of surprise in a space. A modern chair pulled up to a early 1900s wooden desk. A graphic piece of art hanging above granny’s old rocker. A sleek glass dining table with an antique brass chandelier hanging above. I laughed when I stumbled upon these photos.

The loft space is heavenly but anyone with no sense of imagination would then fill it top to bottom with industrial decor (ok, this is probably an ad for Restoration Hardware or something similar so they can get away with it). I’ll forgive those responsible as I freaking LOVE those chesterfields and all that exposed brick.. (Photos by Scott Gabriel Morris)

Raw

I find raw, industrial spaces very inspiring. Location shoot venues are my favourites as they are typically filled with some of the most random bits of furniture and oddities (ie. a pommel horse, because you never know what type of photo shoot or movie might need that!). Shoot Factory has some of the most eclectic and quirky industrial spaces around so I went through their site and picked out some spaces that really stood out. Now I want to go thrifting!!
