Saturday thrift finds

Posted on Sun, 18 Nov 2007 by KiM

For the first time in a long time, I went thrifting yesterday. Now that I have sold my house and bought another, things have calmed down and I have a bit of spare time before the packing nightmare begins. (I don’t want to say anything else about the house because it’s in my lawyer’s hands right now and I don’t want to jinx it, but as soon as it’s a done deal I will post some photos). I ended up going a little nuts at my favourite thrift shop. It’s about an hour away in a small town west of the city, and it proved to be worth the drive. And luckily, I had my parent’s SUV to fill. Since I am moving, there will unfortunately be no photos of these in their new homes anytime soon. I am just going to have to pack these up for the time being. And there are a couple other things I bought but they are for my niece for Christmas and my sister doesn’t want to see them early.

UPDATE: We went to yet another of my favourite thrift stores this afternoon. Bought more junk. Must stop going thrifting. Very dangerous. I am broke.

Shameless plugs

Posted on Mon, 22 Oct 2007 by KiM

It appears Jo and I are embarking on some pretty big ventures at the moment and I wanted to take the time for a little shameless plug for each of us. Let’s start with me, since I have a wee bit more at stake. My house is up for sale, and I’m really proud of ALL the work we’ve put into this place. But it’s time for me to move on. So if anyone out there is looking for a townhouse renovated and decorated by yours truly in Ottawa (Kanata actually)…

Jo has recently opened her Etsy store and it’s stocked of some of the most amazing artwork. She is so freaking talented. And I am so fortunate to already own several of her pieces. I’m like a proud Mom. The first two are photos of ones I own, and the other two she has available in her shop, that I am also itching to own.

Chaos

I have been thinking about whether or not to post this for several days now. I don’t usually like to post about me, except maybe my great thrift finds or house renovations, but I have been feeling guilty for the past week and thought I should post a little note to apologize for my lack of comments on everyone’s blogs (and on this blog for that matter). My life has been quite chaotic lately – to be brief, my boyfriend of 6 years and I have decided to take a break, so for the first time in five and a half years, I will be living on my own. In the past week I also found a new house and have been trying to buy it and have been going through hell to do so. I still don’t have the house and am not hopeful that I will get it. So in the next little while, whether I end up selling my current home or not, I’m going to be pretty busy with non-blog-related stuff. I have only had enough time to publish my posts that I prepare on weekends and Jo and I have some blogging commitments coming up that I have to get ready for. So I am pretty stressed for time these days, and my apologies for not being able to visit all my favourite blogs on a daily basis. I’ve included some photos above of some of my favourite rooms in this house…if I end up selling I will miss this place, but I think a change would be really good right about now.

Been busy lately

I have been busy the last month or trying to get my backyard in some sort of reasonable state. Thanks to my dad’s HUGE help, it’s finally done (well, about 95% done). I hired someone to build the fence and the deck, and the rest was done by my dad and I on my Mondays off and my boyfriend helped on weekends. My dad rocks. For an old guy, he sure worked his ass off. So I figured I had to toot my own horn a bit and show you the results. (Since it’s into August, the planting is at a minimum and we don’t have much furniture/accessories but it’s a start).

Another fruitful Saturday

I got a call this morning from my folks (and grandmother who’s here visiting) to tell me that they were 10 minutes from my house and heading out antiquing and asked if I wanted to tag along. UH……YEAH! To top it off, they were going to the same place where I scored most of my finds the last time. And OH MY, did I score again. It’s kind of dark and cloudy outside so I’ll take the evening to clean things up and post more photos tomorrow of everything in their new homes. Here’s a preview.

Thought I would save the best for last…

But sadly, this is what it looked like 5 minutes after I got it in the door…
