A cottage remodel in Mill Valley, California. Casually elegant with open plan living, a kitchen to die for and an entrance that welcomes and impresses. Colour brings the spaces to life. A wonderful transformation of a humble house into a welcoming family home. Residential Design by Heydt Designs, Interior Design by Benjamin Dhong and Matthew MacCaul Turner. Photography by David Duncan Livingston.

I am so stoked to have devoured the latest issue of Home & Delicious, created by Iceland’s powerhouse couple Gunnar Sverrisson (a photographer) and Halla Bára Gestsdóttir (a designer). I featured a couple of homes from their first issue here and here and I can’t wait to show you one from issue #2 (there are so many incredible homes featured I had a hard time deciding one one to blog). Magical photos and beautiful spaces, as I have come to expect from my new favourite online shelter magazine. This home is a 36 m2 cabin on a lake, build in the 70’s and moved from it’s original to current location in the 90’s, then extended and electricity added. The predominantly white/black/blue colour scheme and casual vibe is perfect for the rugged surroundings.

I love subway tiles. Always have, always will. Classic, inexpensive and graphic (and can be made even more graphic with contrasting grout colour). I thought I’d do a post today on what has to be my favourite type of tile. I have one another favourite that is a close second but I’ll save that for Sunday.

Obviously Jo and I have a thing for beautifully decorated spaces. Throughout the life of this blog my attention has been drawn more and more towards the architecture of the homes we feature. Washington DC based architect Donald Lococo has definitively captured my attention with his thoughful and meticulously designed projects. You almost don’t need furniture in these rooms – the craftsmanship and detail is gorgeous enough.

When I stumbled upon the portfolio of interior designer Marie-Laure Helmkampf I instantly fell in love. Located in the South of France, Marie-Laure has designed some spectacular rustic homes that are so incredibly dreamy. Her neutral colour stories, natural fabrics and modern mixed with classic furnishings and fixtures is perfection. I could live in any of these spaces exactly as they are.
