Minimalist beauty

there’s something about long linen curtains puddling on concrete floors…..

there’s something about a random chair in a corner sitting on original hardwood flooring…

there’s something about an unmade bed and an almost bare wall…

Stunning. Line Klein.

Appartement Saint Paul

I have fallen in love with this 18th century apartment in the heart of Le Marais, Paris. Designed by interior architect Margaux Beja, it is a stunning blend of old-world and modern. With a Scandinavian feel, this space is cozy and bright. A beautiful walnut wall hides spaces like the laundry and bathroom, and a glass wall separates the bedroom from main living space allowing light to flow through. It is pretty much perfection.

The historic sandstone cottage in Sydney’s Balmain had undergone many changes to its fabric over the years. Let’s just say that they weren’t all sympathetic. Carter Williamson Architects‘ renovation has seen the exterior revitalised while the interior has been renewed whilst respecting the narrative of the old home. Walls slide and disappear, old and new are juxtaposed and the choice of materials lets the richness of the original cottage walls become the decoration in this modest, yet spacious and flexible home.

Resplendent in winter white this penthouse loft in Soho by New York-based David Hotson Architect almost qualifies as a winter wonderland to this Australian-based blogger. Christmas in summer here dear readers. And what exactly is hiding in its dark, dark heart? The perfect retreat from all that wonderful white.

Modern organic

A limited palette of greys and whites. Limed floors and boards on the walls. Rich timber and marble in the kitchen. Pops of yellow and orange and blue. Clean lines, no frills. All washed with soft light through French doors and beautiful windows. Charleston-based interior designer Cortney Bishop calls it modern organic. I call it swoon worthy. Such stylish simplicity.
