Perched

Like a tottering tower of toy blocks perched precariously on the edge of a hill the Murnane Residence by Project M+ allows for stylish family living never far away from the stunning view. Reach out touch the sky or climb a rock wall to the next floor in your childhood dreams.

Red ghost

Like a ghostly shadow echoing the surrounding homes the Kew House by Piercy & Company is formed by two volumes containing four bedrooms and living areas set back from the street behind the retained 19th century stable wall. The weathering steel shell, solid and sturdy yet at the same time hinting at decay and change, references the autumnal hues of nearby Kew Garden. A thoroughly modern family home (love the children’s spaces up in the attic) with echoes and ripples of the past.

What’s hiding behind the facade?

Zinc, concrete blockwork, marble and bluestone on the exterior of this two storey extension to a traditional, Edwardian home. White interior and timber floors with colour play from artwork and flashes of rimini blue. Contemporary living… that’s what’s hiding behind the facade. Malvern East House by Pleysier Perkins.

The villa

Abandoned for years this late Victorian era house and stables in Fitzroy, Melbourne has been reinvented by Nest Architects. The remaining two original rooms open into a thoroughly modern family home with overlapping rooms as opposed to strictly open plan allowing for public and intimate spaces. A cleverly designed home filled with the owners eclectic furniture and art. Personality plus.

On the couch

On the fence? No I’m definitely not on the fence when it comes to this St Kilda West home by architects Kennedy Nolan. Love the minimal palette of black and white warmed by rich caramels and honey mustards. No I’m on the couch… in my daydreams. This is my last day off until Christmas and if I had my way you would never get me off that couch. Not ever. Not for Christmas parties and dinners and lunches and drinks and the occasional 5 day conference. Let the countdown to Christmas begin.
