Take a classic 1960’s commercial warehouse building. Bland, boring, in need of a little reuse, redesign magic. Insert two residential apartments and a ground floor retail/office space into the shell. The apartments reference the 60s vernacular of the warehouse building. Glass and steel window walls, internal courtyard. Cool interiors. Cool inner city living. Mission accomplished. Great space. Great reuse of an existing building. By Melbourne firm Taylor Reynolds.

A modern church conversion

I found this “home” also by DOS Architects and had to blog it as church conversions are one of our specialities. The exterior is so beautiful, and the interior is quite a shocking contrast. I’m not a big fan of the pink and purple colour scheme but WOW – talk about an jaw-dropping open concept, modern home. I adore the flooring – I’m all about light, wide-plank hardwood.

Ravenscourt road house

I’m in awe of this stunning home in London that was recently renovated thanks to the talent of DOS ArchitectsOur client’s brief was to open up and extend the lower ground floor whilst also extending the second floor and modernising the whole of the house. Our intervention included the lowering of the lower ground floor whilst also allowing bigger openings towards the rear of the property and therefore increasing the natural light into the building throughout. The result is an integrated, utterly liveable home marked by clean, modern finishes which only complement the noble backdrop of this classic Victorian townhouse.

Highlands

The Southern Highlands, New South Wales. A land of plenty. A land of beauty. A land of hospitality and largesse. A home to match. Restrained luxury. Modern sensibility. A stylish standout. Interior design by Sarah Davison.

Sensory delight by Minosa

Large voids, over sized spaces and lots of cantilevers is what this latest project by Minosa Design is all about. The design team at Minosa was commissioned to create a variety of interior spaces that would be better suited to the over-sized and radical architectural style of the home. The kitchen space was extended and an over-sized, custom-designed and –made table included. Easily seating 10, and extending to seat 14 when needed, the table has become the setting for some memorable social events. A visually interesting and invigorating colour scheme was chosen for the interior spaces with complementary oranges and greens adding shots of brilliant hues to draw the eye. Repeated at various intervals throughout the house, the carefully chosen hits of colour create a cohesive story within the home. The wet areas all feature Liberian limestone on floors and walls. In the powder room, an essence of luxury is assured thanks to the inclusion of an incredible Bisazza Endimonie mosaic feature wall which, when paired with the Puddle washbasin by Minosa, creates the epitome of visual impact. The remaining bathrooms feature the Minosa Milana bench and Elssia drawer units within a stunning light-and-dark colour scheme. A purpose-built home theatre is fitted out in deeper shades to create a moody, more cosseted environment. Complemented by a 1000-bottle wine cellar and bar area, it is a comfortable and inviting space in which to relax.
