A gardener’s house

Posted on Wed, 29 May 2019 by KiM

Another beautiful project (bought and since sold) by the talented team at Les EnsembliersThis house was built on 4 acres of land, surrounded by manicured gardens. After reviewing this project, Les Ensembliers decided to only paint and decorate this home instead of renovating it and risk loosing its soul. The intent was to sell the house but, once the decor took shape, they fell in love with it. The decor inspiration of this project started with the dining room painting which, for Les Ensembliers, represents Giverny and its true character and connection to gardens. Every element of the house was chosen for its references to Monet’s work. This project was about bringing the English garden spirit, elegance, simplicity, and ease inside the house. White painted floors in a old country home is a simple, yet very effective solution, to create an elegant backdrop.

A practical, beautiful garden

Traditional yet contemporary, practical and visually pleasing. Polished concrete, recycled brick, detailed carpentry and sandstone paving and walls, mature olive trees, lush plantings. At times formal, at others rambling, climbing. Eclectic and unique. A Mosman garden by Sydney-based landscape architects Outdoor Establishments.

I’m still real estate scrolling  and I’m still near the water but this time I’m in Jan Juc down on Victoria’s Surf Coast. OK this stylish bungalow isn’t so much a surf shack as it is a wonderful family home but it’s just down the road from the famous Bells Beach and that warrants a surf board or two on hand in the garage. Love the colourful Scandi vibe, the herringbone oak floors, the linen curtains, the wonderful pattern overload in the bedrooms. Fun, fresh and definitely all about the family. Link here while it lasts.

Garden groove

It’s my favourite time of the year here in my subtropical home … or should that be garden? Autumn is neither too hot or too cold here. We may not have much in the way of spectacular autumn colour but instead the garden continues to grow and thrive. With daytime maximums in the mid 20s (Celsius) and nights only dipping to low teens dare I say it’s almost like a European summer. Living in such a paradise it’s easy to see why my mind is full of garden inspiration. My latest plans are heavily influenced by these two fabulous (and very petite) outdoor spaces by Sydney-based landscape design firm Garden Society. Time to get working in the garden again this weekend.

Working on a Saturday

It’s like I say time and time again. If you have to drag yourself into work on a weekend it better be somewhere stylish … and chic and beautiful and totally somewhere you’d want to live let alone work. Well that, at least, is the way I feel about interior designer Sarah Davison‘s Kellett St Design Studio.
