Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 17 May 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)

This is our 10 year little chihuahua cross Romey that we rescued from a puppy mill 8 years ago, they used him as a stud to make more little dogs. His name was Romeo when we first brought him home how unfortunately appropriate. He’s one handsome little guy snoozing on his favourite spot.
– Matt

This is my Weimaraner, Lincoln on the couch in our living room.  He’s not really supposed to be up there, but he loves watching traffic go by.  And how can I resist that face and those ears!
April

Meu nome é Magda e moro em Ribeirão Preto. Aí vai uma foto de um cantinho da minha sala com minha gatinha Bella, de 8 meses. Ela adora ser fotografada.
– Magda

Attached is a photo of my dear rescue dog, Harry!! He’s a 3 1/2 year old Jack Russel terrier. He’s sitting on a vintage chair from a thrift store, painted black and upholstered with Schumacher’s Gainsborough Velvet.
– Geyer

Here’s a pic of Bianca resting on our couch!!
– Mercedes (Argentina)

This is my 2 years old French bulldog Iggy (in tribute to Iggy Pop) with his old friend the giant sea-turtle : he hesitates between Eames and Stark chair.
– Dominique (France)

Gertrude is a smaller-than-average English Bulldog with an underbite, a best friend named Lois, and a distinctive snort. Her hobbies include watching HGTV, having her belly rubbed, and riding in the car. Gertie does not know any tricks, but she loves to make people laugh and eat lots of cookies.
Meghan

Meet Lola, my 4 month old Ragdoll kitten. When she’s not following me from room to room like a second shadow, she likes to jump up from my Barcelona chair onto this mirrored table to get a really good look outside.
– Margaret (Toronto)

I’ve attached one of my favorites of our cat Otis. This picture is totally him, arrogant and royal. Pain in the ass. It was taken on our front porch, his favorite place to sun, but only May through September because we live in Fargo, ND.  The rest of the year it’s too cold for his royalness.
Deb

This is my pup Penny Lane showing off the vanity bench I upcycled this weekend.
– Amber

Our cat, Stig, loves small spaces for curling up – trays, tables… Smaller the better.
– Katherine

This is Nala on her favorite piece of furniture, a lazy day in the sun!
– Danielle

I just love the Pets on Furniture posts — my two beagles just love furniture – they think the floor is for the dogs! The first picture is at my parents house where the two are often found bunking on a purple overstuffed chair. The bottom dog, Oscar, hates having his picture taken. However, I was able to capture Oscar lounging on an ugly (rental home) but comfy sofa (second picture). They make my days joyful and help me to stop and sniff the roses, and grass, and whatever else is around.”
– Lisa

This is Kophr (pronounced “Copper”), my sister’s beagle, on my estate-sale-find chair that he loves jumping up on to peer out the front room window.  He also jumped up when he wanted to show my two big dogs that he, in fact, had the high ground. 😉
Cassi

Hi, my name is Sandra and this is my dog Masha. Masha is a mixed-breed dog, and we are from Belgrade in Serbia.
– Sandra

Here is my french poodle pup Rishi. Somehow he has come to the conclusion that our Pier 1 Daybed belongs to him and him only. So the result is this.

This is my Miniature Bull Terrier Lilly. When she was a puppie I loved to have this warm little doggy lying behind my back while I was working. Now she’s grown-up and is still lying there everyday, so we both have to spare that tiny space. But that’s ok as long as we are together.
– Julia

This next entry I wrote up on behalf of my younger sister. She’s been wanting to participate in a Pet post for a long time now and finally took photos of her Persian named Pugley whom my fiancé and I rescued from the Humane Society several years ago (he drove our Himalayan nuts so she offered to take him). He’s a grump-ass but he was in really rough shape when we first saw him so he’s forgiven and he’s now the king of her house. Here are a couple photos of him on his throne.
– Kim and Jen

This is Hank on the red leather couch at the production office while we were on location in Vancouver.
Ithyle

This is a picture of my sister’s dog. I was watching him while they went on a holiday. His name is Hamudi which means cuty in Hebrew.
– Adi

This is my 4 months frenchie, SASHA resting on the couch on a sunny afternoon.
– Mihai (Romania)

This is a picture of our fancy tuxedo cat, Cricket, on our not-so-fancy furniture.
– Nicole

My name is Jenny West. Photo is by Katie Stoops. Boston Terrier is Stella. Katie is raising money for the SPCA humane society and is taking photos of pets as a side project. This is Stella being a little shy because she wasn’t so sure why she was getting so much attention that day. We had a wonderful shoot after we got to the park where Stella could be herself. (We got the modern and sleek sofa from a thrift store for $100. Fits the room perfect).
Jenny

This is Mayzie in her favourite position in-between my favourite vases (much to my horror).
– Kate

This is Bleau, our Great Dane.  She has claimed our Lee Jofa sofa as hers now!  I can’t kick her off, just look at her! 😉
Melissa

This is Bella, our year old Meagle (mini pin, beagle cross). This girl has attitude! She is the queen of the house (or at least she thinks so). She lounges anywhere she pleases and if you try to get her to move so you can sit there, she’s not happy. She loves this old blue chair that I inherited from my parents and have hopes of upholstering. She can lay there all day long and sunbathe (since its right next to the picture window.)
– Jess

I know I sent you one photo of my sweet red cat as a kitten in our laundry basket, but this afternoon something happened that I have to share with you too 🙂 I have another cat called Baktus – actually it is my daughters – and it loves to sleep in my expensive Arne Jacobsen Chair-7 that is placed in my bedroom. That means we never can lay our clothes there without having cat hair all over. I have been waiting to catch a photo of it at the right moment, and today I finally got a great picture of it. Then the fantastic thing happend: Two hours later the other cat Rahpaello, who almost never sleeps in this chair, hopped up on it and took an afternoon nap. I succeeded in taking a picture of him too from almost the same angel. And now you can see what came out of that.
– Annette (Denmark)

This is KitKat sitting in her (and my) favorite chair!
– Kristen

Beneath the couldn’t-be-bothered greyhound,Lizzie, and the ever-alert Toy Fox Terrier, Gordalita, lies a beautiful chaise which I bought on Ebay and recovered in silk velvet. No, really, it’s nice. Move dogs! People want to see the silk velvet!
– Priscilla

Ok, so I am not sure if your pet can be featured more that once? My kids really wanted me to send you this photo of our Beagle Rooke. He lays on top of this chair and looks out the window. He reminds me of a cat when he does this
– Stephanie

This is the family dog Winslow. He loves to play around on my little sister Erin’s bed in his favourite green shirt.”

This is Jeremiah and he LOVES anything new, so he’s settled down into a new basket on the cocktail table…
– Jeff

These are my feathered babies. My cockatiel was having fun in our living room as she recovered from her sore wing (got caught in his cage, thank god his wing wasn’t broken). The other one is my lovely 14 year old yellow headed amazon, his name is Mauricio.
– Marcela

1 – This is just how Oscar sits all the time.  NEVER on the floor….always like a human, on a piece of furniture….preferrably near a window.
2 – This is Oscar taken on Christmas Day 2009.  I received a copy of Cesar Millan’s “How to Raise a Perfect Dog” book for a gift and it was left on the coffee table.  Oscar claimed the chair beside the table and fell asleep sitting up.  I couldn’t resist this shot!

– Jill

This is my cat Jake laying on my amazing down filled vintage couch from the 70’s. I found it in someone’s yard with a FREE sign on it (SCORE)! Being strategically placed under a bright sunny window, it’s his favorite place to lounge.
– Melodie
My name is Shannon Ashburn and my Mastiff/hound mix is named Waylon.  My dog loves sleeping more than anything in life and I have a few shots of his weird positions.
– Shannon

My puppy “Pow Pow” on our leopard print coffee table/foot stools, I love the leopard pieces and my puppy so much.
Lauren

1 – This is Riko.  He’s almost 5 and I adopted him in Kuwait when he was 1.  After overcoming the initial shock of moving from a shelter in the middle of the desert to a house, he decided that the bed is his safe place.  No matter where he is – my house, a hotel, or a relative’s home – he immediately jumps into the bed.  When he’s feeling lazy, he likes to have breakfast in bed.
2 – This is my mother’s dog Bandit who died in 2006.  Visiting me when I lived in Tunisia, he picked this chair as his favorite napping spot because my dogs refused to share their beds.
3 – This is Cashmere (left) and Riko (right) during our first week in Jordan.  None of my things had arrived and our apartment was filled with loaner items.  They picked the bed as the best place to spend time – leaving no room for me – until our furnishings arrived.”
Natalie
“This is Annabelle, my parents’ darling black schnauzer. She’s a hit with everyone that visits, and gets way too much attention. She’s spoiled rotten, as you can see here.
– Claudia
Teddy being coy. Hiding underneath the Fightin’ Irish.

Here are a couple of pictures of my kitten Alice. She is 14 weeks old and a wild little thing. She loves to play, sleep and scratch on my sofa.
– Kristine (Norway)

This is TingTing (aka Baby). She’s a 10 month old Green Cheek Conure who loves to be with me. I have been reupholstering these chairs and she’s been with me the whole time. Try pounding nails with a parrot sitting on your hand…or head. I wanted to get a shot of the chair stripped down to the muslin and burlap because it was so pretty. TingTing obviously thought she should be in the photo…it’s like she’s saying ‘you are taking a picture of ME right?!’
Dane

My lovely Lilah on her (and my) favorite ‘flea market find and fix’ chair.
Shelly

This is my kitty Poe posing in the afternoon sun. We lived in a 1940’s stream-line Art Deco apartment building in LA (built by the man who played the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz) and bought furniture to match the aesthetic. Of course, Poe thought it was just for her.
– Joanna

This is our dog Keely whom we adopted out of the side of a van in a parking lot. She has been the love of our lives and couldn’t ask for a better companion! Here she is in one of her many unusual spots on a lazy day…
– Courtney

This is Marcel. He has to inspect every new….anything…that comes into the house. Here he is checking out our new vintage Danish rosewood chest.
– Chris

Coltrane is the spokescat for my art business. Whenever the camera comes out he knows it is time to get professional. As you can see he is very god at his job. You can see him at work at www.rikizarris.etsy.com
– Riki

I’m a big fan of your blog and a fellow Ottawan! We have two pups, Sam and Milo (in the foreground), who own the living room sofa, even though they are continually warned not to. I have been trying for months to get a shot to send in for Monday’s Pets on Furniture, but these fellas are camera shy and usually make themselves scarce when they hear the camera turn on. This time they were not so quick!
Donna

Here is our cat Rory making himself comfortable on our newly upholstered arm chairs. He thinks we had them reupholstered just for him.

Greetings from the Caribbean! Pikey is primarily an outdoor island cat but when the garden needs sprayed and she is forced to spend the day indoors, this is how she celebrates.  Another one of her mid yawn on one of her favorite outdoor chairs.
Stacie
My Chihuahua Princeton stretching out on our homemade short-legged table. He loves to jump up there and drink my coffee every morning when I step out of the room!
– Natalie
My new little kitten, Roxie, loves to sniff all the smells in my apartment building’s tiny backyard as she perches on this rustic cafe chair–an indulgent impulse purchase I made one Saturday morning last summer as I wandered through the downtown of a nearby town and noticed a “going out of business sale” sign in the window of one of my favorite little home decor shops.”
– Andrea

In honour of you being featured in a Singapore magazine, here’s 4-month old Mini Schnauzer Bacon posing in our design showroom in Singapore. Second picture is of him lazing at home on a newly upholstered cube stool with fabric from Ikea.

– Vincent
Here we have Archibald Jebidiah enjoying the sunshine on his Virginia estate.  He’s thinking “Gosh it’s good to live in Dixie!
– Bethann
Hi, I’m Nebojsa and this is my cat Katja. She simply loves to sleep under this cool lamp which is actually her ‘solarium’. 🙂
– Nebojsa
harley lives in nyc & is an avid bike rider
dizzy lives in Sydney & collects mid century modern furniture
they are separated by an big ocean but they are soul mates at heart!

Dana
I was visiting my brother in San Diego last week, when an odd scrabbling sound awoke me early in the morning. I went to see what it was and found Lil Joe standing on a desktop. ‘Ummm,’ I said to Joe, ‘wait right here, I’m gonna get my camera.’ He did, I did, and this is the shot (I do love the fabric my sister-in-law, Holly used on the desk chair). When my brother came down that morning I told him Lil Joe had been on the table. ‘Nuh uh,’ he grunted. I merely turned on the camera and showed him.
– Priscilla
Here’s our old boy, Moby, and his best friend, Enzo.
– Leigh
Rooney, our English Bulldog, playing mountain goat on top of our new end table.
– Laura
I have a few submissions of my late, great rabbit Mr. T. (Unfortunately, he was black, so very hard to get good pictures of. This is why I’m giving you several, in case one is clear enough for your standards. But he had no qualms about hopping up on my mid-century teak credenza, which I always found hilarious. He passed away last October.)
– Sarah
These are my two cats, Pixie and Milo (sister and brother) they are just over a year and like to sleep on top of my bookcase in the family room.
Lisa
Coco is a very hyper-active dog and likes to run around the house most of the time, but when it is time to relax he likes to hide in between all the pillows on my futon.  Sometimes its hard for me to spot him! LOL
– Jeane
This is Mugsie laying on our couch – he will only sit perched on the top of couch and chair cushions, causing our furniture to get some lovely indentations. But it’s worth it to see how comfortable and adorable he is!
– Perri
