Stalking on a Saturday

Posted on Sat, 1 Feb 2014 by midcenturyjo

I have turned from the embrace of my dark darling and now offer my undying love to the light. What on earth am I babbling about? A couple of years ago I lost my heart to artist Marcella Kaspar‘s home except that I thought it was fashion icon and style setter Maggie Tabberer’s home but it wasn’t because Maggie Tabberer’s home was Marcella’s old home and Marcella and builder/designer Mark Cooper had built a new home in the same style but beautifully dark and moody. Confused? All you need to know is that this is indeed Maggie Tabberer’s home and it is for sale. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The photos don’t do it justice. Those who have seen it in magazine shoots will know what  I mean. I would move in a heart beat. Perhaps I can haunt the open for inspections. Oh I truly am a stalker now. Link here while it lasts.

Stalking has resumed

” Jo is in her stalking heaven – All’s right with the world!” The real estate market is warming up and I am stalking at full pace again. Thank goodness I live in another state because I would be standing on the doorstep of this Clovelly, Sydney house with a packed bag and a some story I had concocted about my moving in. Love the master suite downstairs, love the kitchen, the pastel flashes of old glass windows, the lush little backyard and the fact that it is 250m to the beach. Yes please! Link here while it lasts.

Stalking leftovers

Posted on Sat, 25 Jan 2014 by midcenturyjo

The real estate market is reluctantly dragging itself away from its summer holidays and new listings are popping up online. It’s still a little slow… like the kids going back to school in the coming weeks. Kicking their heels and whinging about everything. Like I am with my real estate leftovers. Call me whiney, particular, choosy and hard to please. I’m fussy when it comes to which houses make it on to the blog. Not quite right, bad photos, I need more photos please! House is amazing furniture is deplorable. Can’t quite put my finger on it listings with something that has me nodding “yes”. This week’s finds include the obligatory exorbitantly priced inner city Sydney and Melbourne homes, a small country farm, a cute little studio apartment and a beach shack that tumbles onto the sand (I shudder at the thought of the price). A villa in Phuket

In 12 days I will be headed to one of my favourite destinations on earth – Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. While I walk 40 minutes to and from work in -30 C weather I dream of the sun, sand, food and booze I will be experiencing very soon. I would be pretty content to chill in this villa located in Phuket too. This villa boasts panoramic views over the Andaman Sea, Phuket Bay, Koh Rang Yai and Koh Maprao with a 55m2 infinity pool, the expansive al fresco dining area and the 1,519m2 garden. It offers 930m2 of constructed space, with five bedrooms, gym, home office, home cinema…everything you could want in paradise. Those views!!! All this can be yours for 3.15 million USD. Stalking Harry Seidler

Posted on Sat, 7 Dec 2013 by midcenturyjo

I’m stalking a modernist gem today. Stalking a piece of Australian architectural history. My Australian midcentury modern friends will be going weak at the knees. Here’s what the real esate agent says… “We live in a disposable society, in an age when so many things in life are too often forgotten or disposed of to make room for bigger and newer things. So it’s a precious surprise when one encounters a stunning home that has survived the times, continuing to act as a testament to the era and style of which it was built. It’s even more precious, when the architect who designed the home intelligently and specifically, is none other than the father of Australian modern architecture, Harry Seidler.” Located in Beaumont, South Australia it is his only home built in this state.

What I love the most is how it is a well loved family home, that kids hang aeroplanes from the ceiling and maps and medals from the walls, that updates are sympathetic to the era and that the pool is original! A small midcentury marvel well loved and well used by a modern family. Perfect and imperfect. Link here while it lasts. (Thanks Andrea for finding this one for us.)
