Susi Mitchell, a real estate agent in Texas, emailed us about one of her latest listings (see a previous listing of hers that we blogged here). This one is a restored historic southern home located in McKinney. The wraparound porch is heavenly, and it even boasts a pool complete with large pool house. It’s gorgeous, and can be yours! Drama. Dark rich drama. Style and panache. Subtropical gardens and a grand old house that has grown and evolved over the generations. On trend and reported to be in an upcoming interiors magazine, this Byron Bay house is my latest real estate stalking target. I’ve been seduced and I think you will be too. There is very little I would change. Dark  walls, fuchsia pink coffee table, rich green sofas and sparkling chandelier. Yes please. Kitchen and family dining, perfect for my needs. Today I’m stalking interior design history. High atop The Princeton building in Double Bay, Sydney is the penthouse apartment home of one of the most recognisable figures in Australian interior design Leslie Walford AM. Occupying the entire top floor of the 1939 Art Deco  building, the 500sqm penthouse sanctuary commands uninterrupted northerly harbour views to Manly. Walford, who died this year, set the taste and style of Sydney’s eastern suburbs through the ’60s and ’70s. If Florence Broadhurst was the style maven of the beau monde decorating scene then Walforde was interior design doyen of the establishment. His was an eclectic mix of antique furniture, Australian art, rich oriental rugs and objet sourced from around the world. His penthouse home is a time capsule of a life well lived, of style and grace and another time. If you have the rumored $4.5+ million it is for sale here. The contents are being auctioned at Mossgreen on November 18.

Today’s second real estate stalking finds me pounding the virtual pavements of Armadale, Melbourne. A renovation and extension of a Tudor style period house has caught me eye. From its dark exterior and stylish garden to the sophisticated open plan living. Glass gym in the backyard anyone? Perhaps watching TV in the media room from the pool? I would love to see this home photographed sympathetically. Please, please, pretty please professional real estate photographers in Australia stop with the HDR over tweaked photos. We get it. You want a dramatic effect but it’s like bad cosmetic surgery… fake and unattractive. Link here while it lasts.

Imagine a little cottage in the country. A weekend retreat. An escape. Do your imaginings turn to nightmares at the thought of chintz and yellow pine, old iron beds and shabby chic armoires? You’re a minimalist. You like it clean lined and modern with nary a whiff of dried flowers and old advertising signs, thrifted tat and dust catchers. I have found your perfect tree change getaway. Simple, stylish and with a scarcity of scatter cushions. A small black cottage on acreage with studio accommodation for guests. After all if you dislike clutter that much it might be best to keep your friends a few metres away 😉 The first of two real estate stalkings for today.
