Stalking on a Saturday

Posted on Sat, 6 Oct 2012 by midcenturyjo

Happy weekend everyone! It is very hot here. Summer seems to have come early… very early! Sitting upstairs at a computer dripping sweat onto the keyboard isn’t my idea of fun. I would rather be downstairs in the cave like cool of my colonial brick house working on a new painting. It’s like an old fashioned cold box down there. Cool in more ways than one 🙂 I think this modern terrace house in Surry Hills, Sydney I found stalking might just be a cool place too. Wooden floors, walls that slide open nice and wide. If there is a breeze I bet it gets funneled through. And if it is still too hot then you would find me standing under a cold shower staring at the bright blue sky. Link here while it lasts.

The view

Look at that view! Scrambled eggs and coffee with a newspaper on a Saturday morning and that view of Sydney. Twilight drinks and salty olives and that view. Life has been breathed back into the 1845 sandstone warder’s terrace, part of the original Darlinghurst gaol. A sophisticated, world traveller type of interior marrying antiques and art work, precious mementos and creature comforts, a little faded around the edges but all the better for it. A wonderful location and a wonderful view. I’m beginning to imagine moving my things or perhaps I’ll just live on the terrace and drink in that view. The last real estate stalking for the week. Stuck stalking

Many apologies dear readers. I am still real estate stalking. I am trapped in a virtual world pacing back and forth outside houses for sale, peeking through their virtual net curtains. It is the Spring auction season, a time when owners spruce and zhush and real estate agents preen and strut. There is money to make, properties to move off the books. Today I’m in Bowral in New South Wales. A country cottage with lots of stylish vignettes. See for yourself. Here are lots of pictures of them. Methinks the house has had a magazine spread and the agent and owners like them a lot better than the photos the agent took. I have included only two of those, the outside and the master bedroom. Speaking of the master bedroom that is an interesting way of using an old unused fireplace to separate the ensuite from the main room. This pretty country cottage with its pretty vignettes can be found here while it lasts.

Little loft living

Just a little loft on the inner city fringe. Just a small two bedroom apartment in a warehouse conversion in Chippendale in Sydney. Just a small open plan living area and a private balcony with just enough plants to liven up the place. Just enough midcentury furniture mixed with industrial, found objects and art. Just enough to keep me happy… if I was young and carefree and hadn’t hoarded so much junk over my life time! Link here while it lasts.

Stalking the beginning of summer

Posted on Mon, 24 Sep 2012 by midcenturyjo

The day is warm but I know the breeze will be rolling in across the sea soon. I push the bifolds back and walk across the deck. Arms stretched out across the rails I arch my aching back and turning, take in the open plan living before me. I can’t believe all this is mine. Subtropical style, sophisticated beach house meets casual, modern living. The dark floor boards ground the white as white walls while dashes of colour pull my eyes here and there. Everything is lovely but nothing is too precious. In the trees outside the cicadas start to hum. There is a scent of summer, gum leaves and sea salt. I close my eyes and smile sadly. It’s all a daydream. I click away from the real estate site I have been stalking and open again the spreadsheet that has been taunting me at work all morning. If you too want to dream about this 1920’s Avalon, Sydney home the link is here.
