Words fail me – Prahran, Melbourne

Posted on Tue, 7 Aug 2012 by midcenturyjo

Usually I wax lyrical about homes and designers, photographers or stylists. I can rattle off all sorts of sentences, parlay a paragraph. But today the muse has abandoned me. I want to blather about kitchens and bathrooms and outdoor spaces brimming with veggies but I cannot find the words. I’ll let the pictures tell the story instead. Real estate stalking per usual. Stalking in the tree tops

High in the tree tops is a house of pavilions poised over Pittwater, north of Sydney. Clinging to the steep slope yet planted firming by poles it is almost like living in a tree house. Reach out and touch the branches if you can. Firmly grounding it all is a stone hearth for chillier times of the year but otherwise it is fold open the walls and be at one with nature. A stunning holiday home or a lucky full time tree change. Yes it is for sale. Want to pool resources and buy that pool with me? Our own little “cottage” at Cottage Point. Link here while it lasts.

Stalking on a Saturday

In bed with a bad cold. Great way to spend the weekend…. actually it is a great way to spend the weekend. Sleep, hot cups of tea and ignoring the chores. So I’m being lazy and posting a stalking piece. Mind you it is a wonderful early 70s house by Robin Boyd brought sympathetically into the 21st century. Link here while it lasts. Dear hubby could you make me a hot whiskey? I’m sure it would work a treat on this cold.

Stalking a suburban resort

Want to get away from it all without leaving home? Ever craved a resort style oasis in your backyard? I think this Paddington, Sydney house might just be the answer. It feels like a tropical beach house only kilometers from the centre of Australia’s biggest city. Free flowing open plan living spaces with great connection to the outdoors. Throw those doors open and welcome the sun. Cool off in the plunge pool meters from the living room. There is even a studio above the garage for your friends and family who want to check in for a break. Small space, big style. Link here while it lasts.

Stalking in the Byward Market

Posted on Mon, 16 Jul 2012 by KiM

It’s my turn for a change for a stalking post. This one is located here in Ottawa, and was submitted by Isobel (ironically enough I had come across it on MLS the day before she emailed). Isobel’s parent’s live in the Byward Market, a very desirable neighbourhood as it is smack in the middle of downtown, filled with cool shops and restaurants (and she actually grew up there and not in the ‘burbs – lucky girl!). Isobel styled the home for her folks, and she did a smashing job I have to say, especially for Ottawa standards, as no one here knows how to style or photograph a home for a sale listing. I am not kidding you – it’s so embarrassing. Isobel was really smart in styling this older home with modern furnishings as I’d guess 80% of the people looking to live in that area are young professionals who are typically into modern homes and/or decor. And I have to point out how much I love a feature wall in a home that lacks architectural detail. In this home it is a brick wall (although I think it’s wallpaper but imagine it’s real brick), or you could clad a wall in rough, reclaimed timber or some exposed concrete would be cool. Any of these give a bit of drama and intrigue because there’s only so much you can do with furniture. Think about it.
