A house chock-a-block full of David Bromley paintings just down the road from David Bromley’s A Day on Earth shed in Daylesford, Victoria. A coincidence and a local with a deep pocket and great taste or perhaps the artist’s bolt hole? Don’t know but what I do know is that I love the relaxed vibe of this country house…. and the amazing art. Wish we could see more of the large open plan living/dining area in what I’m assuming is the dairy. Yes old country house and renovated dairy guest house. The bad real estate shots have whetted my appetite for more. I’ve been stalking again. Tomintoul c 1860. Link here while it lasts.

Stalking a suburban tardis

Doctor Who fans will know the secret of the tardis. Bigger on the inside than it appears on the out. Who could imagine such high open spaces could be lurking behind this narrow single fronted house in Port Melbourne? A clever extension lifts the space to follow the roof pitch and seamlessly melds the inside and out. Features that speak to me are the  two “open” bathrooms, the way light is brought into the centre of the house through a series of pitched skylights and a clever open garden room. Stalking a hair salon?

I’ll real estate stalk anything it seems. Like this Windsor, Melbourne terrace house. Perusing the photos I thought yes like the chandelier, celadon vases are certainly spectacular if not a little large (I’d be petrified I’d knock them over), blanc de chine on the mantle is lovely. Why is the chair facing a mirror? Is that make-up on a console? Strange bottles to have in the kitchen window. Light bulb moment when I read the accompanying text. Terrace for sale currently leased as a hair salon. Stylish indeed and just a little special, like a private boudoir. I’d love to see the courtyard in full summer bloom. I’m sure it would be lush with greenery. Link here while it lasts.

Friday stalking 2

Posted on Fri, 15 Jul 2011 by midcenturyjo

Back for my second stalking post today. This time a one bedroom apartment in Potts Point, Sydney. White and bright with lots of timber and a red Venetian glass light to die for. talk about a statement piece in a small space. A perfect city pad. The little outdoor balcony is a definite asset. I feel the need for more artwork especially in the bedroom but the exposed brick wall adds that funky industrial vibe when teamed with the metal and glass walls. The apartment is in the Yellow House, a well known bohemian artist haunt that has now been gentrified (as is the want with all valuable inner city property these days). Thankfully they kept the famous wall art by 60s artist Martin Sharp. You can just see one peering down the hallway.  apartment. Link here while it lasts.
