A modern remodel in California

Posted on Wed, 31 Oct 2018 by midcenturyjo

“The scope of work included an extensive remodel of the existing 3,204 sq. ft. home with an 815 sq. ft. new addition for the master suite. The challenge of this residence was to unify a hyper traditional exterior façade, strictly limited by the historic classification of the neighborhood, with an unexpectedly contrasted interior. Similarly, the extremely traditional layout was reworked to create less restricted spaces and to utilize the privacy of the rear yard.”

From 1921 to 2018, a beautiful renovation, clean lined yet earthy, rich and tactile while simple and soothing. Van Ness by the second L.A. based studio for today Simo Design.

A renovated apartment in Berlin

How to win me over in 2 steps. 1 – install some crittall doors as a room separator. 2 – install some old-school patterned tile in a “rug” pattern. Studio Karhard + TWArchitecten won me over just like that with this Berlin apartment renovation.

Another refurbished Victorian home in London

I have serious bedroom envy after finding this new location home on Shoot Factory so I had to spread the love with you all. I want the bed soooooo badly. But I’d paint it black. And the wooden legs holding up the mattress. The rest of this home is pretty fabulous too. Those crown moldings are what dreams are made of.

Comfy and casual, with lots of vintage pieces in this remodeled cottage by London-based interior design firm ALL & NXTHINGThis was a big passion project for us, an old wreck nestled in awesome De Beauvoir, Hackney. We took a tired 1890’s cottage and re designed every inch of it utilising its beautiful original bones and adding to its character. Highlights include the double height bathroom with exposed brick and bateau tub and the extended open plan kitchen with exposed beams, concrete floors, log burner and our bespoke kitchen design incorporating Terrazzo and reclaimed parquet worktops.

Before & after of a renovated Victorian

Ottawa is not known for its interior design scene. Nor do I find there is much creativity when it comes to interiors here. Henrietta Southam is breaking that mold and her style is about as eclectic as you can get. And for those reasons it was an absolute MUST that I share her Victorian home in the ‘hood of New Edinburgh that is currently on the market. It is stunning inside and out and I was so stoked to be able to include some before photos so you can really see the transformation. Henrietta’s ability to blend old with new, to maintain some traditional architectural details while adding in more modern touches, and featuring some really breathtaking antiques, makes this home one of my favourites EVER. I am taking some serious notes for all the upcoming projects in my home. Also, you must follow her on Instagram. She is talented writer to boot, and her descriptions are always a great read. Now, enough talk. Let me introduce you to the best home in Ottawa!
