Just a snippet from another project by Joanna Laajisto Creative Studio. Part of the design for a sushi restaurant, It’s a wonderful idea for a coffee/tea station in a home kitchen. If only I could fit one in. Espresso machine, Marimekko and blonde wood. Perfect.

Helsinki based interior architect and designer Joanna Laajisto‘s philosophy is “not to clutter this world with unnecessary things but to find the hidden beauty of each space and to enhance it by creative solutions.” Two inspiring projects. The first Bar&Co, a modern take on a 1920’s bistro. Think marble, oak, leather, wrought iron and copper. Love the hand forged copper candle sconces. The second a dark and brooding minimalist home. A modern interior of rich woods and contemporary furniture.

Oh my! What a day! I think a stiff drink is in order. Perhaps some good company to help me wind down. Somewhere dark and moody. Quirky, stylish, fabulous. Now if I was just on the Lower East Side in New York. The Experimental Cocktail club designed by Chzon.

Check out this really funky bakery called Serrajòrdia located in the town of Sant Cugat del Valles near Barcelona. It was designed by interior design firm AM_Asociados and is a fantastic mix of industrial and vintage – my favourite combination! There are some great touches here that can easily translate to a residence. 

So much great design coming from commercial work. So much inspiration. A fish and chip restaurant in Ealing, London has my mind twisting and turning trying to figure out how I’m going to fit these ideas in my home. Fun and functional, young and quirky. Definitely not fusty. Definitely fab. Distressed and industrial, schoolhouse and rustic. Warm timber with bright colour. Love the typography (yes I’m a typo nerd), love the rough planks, the red and blue, the “newspaper” walls, the subway tiles, the lights, love it all. Vibrant new British design.
