Maison Estate

Posted on Thu, 30 Aug 2012 by midcenturyjo

I’ve booked a table. The one outside under the tree. Food and wine and good company and a heavenly setting. The vineyard, the restaurant and tasting room in a converted farm cottage. Maison Estate at Franschhoek in the Valley of the Huguenots in South Africa. I don’t think it can get any better.

Matt Woods and Avido

Hip, cool and clever. Matt Woods again? No this time I’m talking about his design for Avido. Macramé on the ceiling (a Sarah Parkes piece), old brick walls balanced by warm timber counters, slashes of colour and an eclectic collection of classic furniture. Avido means greedy and I’m certainly eager to use some of these ideas in my own home. Photos by Will Reichelt.

Commute Home

We concentrate primarily on domestic interiors on Desire to Inspire. It’s all about the home. Actually it’s all about the room porn for the home. Every so often, though, inspiration comes muscling in from commercial designs. Commute Home is a Toronto based design firm and although what you see before you are restaurants and offices, shops and studio space I could with just a tiny bit of tweaking see these designs providing inspiration for your “not so tame” domesticated home. A little indie. A little edgy. Definitely with attitude. Urban cool. Inner city hip.

Laura’s café project

Posted on Wed, 6 Oct 2010 by KiM

Laura Fulmine, a London-based interior stylist and design consultant and have just finished a project in a cafe in East London called Tina We Salute You and emailed us to share some details and photos. “The installation was to coincide with London Design Week. It was only supposed to stay for one week however, it has proved so popular, the lovely people at Tina’s have agreed to keep it on for one more week! I wanted to do something small this year for Design Week and so approached this great cafe in East London who use their cafe as a part gallery, allowing artists to display their work for 6 weeks at a time. Instead of using the walls as a gallery I chose to do an interiors project and so painted all the cafe in South African wall murals.” The colours and patterns are so much fun. I love how this turned out Laura! Thanks for giving us a peek!

Geremia Designs

Posted on Fri, 16 Jul 2010 by KiM

This post is one of 3 I have planned for today of some designs we’ve been emailed as of late. I’m taking you into the commercial design world (for a bit of a change from our usual residential interiors) of a new designer out of San Francisco – Lauren Geremia of Geremia Design. “She is leading the pack in restaurant, bar and office design in SF. Formally trained as a painter at RISD, her style has an extreme artistic approach. She always combines reclaimed pieces with unique wallpapers from companies like Trove, and furniture from companies like Uhuru.” I like her funky style. Can’t wait to see the residential projects she’s got coming up next year.
