Now THIS is where I would want to spend my summer. This island retreat by Seattle design firm Hoedemaker Pfeiffer is all kinds of rustic, while adding a bit of whimsy with an unconventional bedroom set-up. This project shows what happens when you focus on your strengths, defy convention, and take a few risks. The demolition of half the house made room for a camp-like setting of grand indoor spaces for gathering with great outdoor spaces for taking the sun and views, or gathering around the fire. Bedrooms were replaced by a collection of wall tents that lose nothing in luxury and gain everything in the connection to the great outdoors.​

I’m almost at a loss for words. This home in Wentworth-Nord, Québec designed by Montréal architect Alain Carle is so incredibly beautiful from the outside in. Most of the wood and stone throughout the house are reclaimed and are what really make this home special. Alongside the concrete floors, plaster walls and crittall windows, it is a winning combination. Bonus points for the dark stained wood adding in some moody drama. This is everything I love. My friend Roseline sent me a message the other day that her friend’s mom passed away suddenly and her beautiful farmhouse in The Netherlands has been put up for sale. Built around 1910 on the border of the towns of Knegsel and Veldhoven, it has been renovated and rebuilt several times over the years yet still maintains a time-worn look and appears to have been given a bit of an ethnic facelift recently. This home is absolutely stunning and what a dream it would be to put my mark on such a space. Listing details can be found here.

The perfect marriage of sophistication and rustic style, of old and new, humble object and high end statement piece. Stone and straw play against the gloss of lacquer and hints of gold. While the dichotomy provides the drama in this Mediterranean Townhouse by Spanish designer Serge Castella, the contrast is more curated than clashing. Imagine living surrounded by such beautiful things.

From the heady heights of a mid century classic to a humble ranch abode, is there anything Los Angeles based interior design firm Hallworth can’t put its hand to? Apparently not. I’m packing my bags to move in.
