Reflections and warm colours

I looooove how Iñigo Aragón and Pablo López Navarro of design firm Casa Josephine Studio took what could have easily read as a very cold and small apartment (70 sqm located in the center of Madrid) and created just the opposite. Painted out brick, stone, concrete with exposed beams and a concrete floor in pale grey keep things light and add a coziness, fabrics in rusts and orange shades add warmth, and stainless and tons of mirror provide much reflection and make the space seem larger. Genius. (Photos: Pablo Zamora)

Dreaming of summer

Winter is ALMOST done in my part of the world and I’ve been daydreaming of long, hot days, sand between my toes and relaxed living. I must say this holiday house in Portugal by  Daniel Suduca and Thierry Merillou of Suduca & Merillou is what I see when I close my eyes. Perfect.

Rustic and warm

“A complete overhaul ensued with this Hartsdale home in Westchester County. Taking many of the rooms from deep purple walls, to a newly brightened atmosphere. To keep from sterility, we peeled back the ceilings to reveal the original, raw, joists. Utilizing a deep blackened-blue on the cabinetry, was elementary to highlighting the mix of materials throughout. The added rusticism made this close knit space one to enjoy throughout every season, and truly has served as the heart of this home.”

A rustic meets industrial take on a family kitchen that is approachable and warm. If the kitchen is the heart of the home then this one is beating strong. Westchester Cottage by Becca Interiors.

A century old cabin in California

Santa Anita cabin. Angeles National Forest, California. By Commune Design.
Our intent was to blend a variety of inspirations within the original hundred year old historic cabin. We looked at Swedish and French chalets, Japanese and Shaker design details all through the framework of utility and function. Every bit of space was utilized creating places to stash gear and organize clutter for a weekend trip… All materials and furnishings were transported down a narrow canyon path by pack mule or hand built wheel barrow.
This cabin would be an absolute BLAST to spend a summer holiday. I’d even be game for going all in and using the outhouse 🙂

In a town in France called Cornillé-les-Caves there is conveniently a home for sale that is comprised of two townhouses and a troglodyte (cave) house. It could use some new paint colours and an interior design overhaul but WHOA the potential this place has. It’s incredible! And can be yours for €861 000 via Karacterre.
