Morrisstudio

Posted on Wed, 9 Feb 2022 by KiM

Morrisstudio is a London-based interior design firm founded by director Tom Morris in 2018. Having spent more than a decade working as a design writer and critic before setting up the business, Tom takes a journalist’s more considered approach to creating homes that goes beyond style and has a natural attraction to things with a story. Craft is at the studio’s core. Its projects are defined by the handmade and the individual — places where practical needs are put first and the human hand is always felt. I’ll add unique, approachable and pragmatic to describe Tom’s take on design.

Benham Park – a Georgian mansion in England

Posted on Sun, 6 Feb 2022 by KiM

It doesn’t get much grander than this. Spectacular! Benham Park is 30,000sqft Grade II* listed Georgian mansion set within 130 acres of parkland, just west of Newbury. Designed by Henry Holland and extensive landscapes by Capability Brown, the estate was built by the Craven family in 1776. Albion Nord was appointed to project manage, interior design, procure the FF&E and dress the house. The interior design is purposefully paired back in response to the ornate classical architectural features, and designed for modern, comfortable country living. (A quick search tells me this home was on the market a few years ago for £26 million) Photos: Kensington Leverne

There’s something about Paris style, that you can’t quite put it into words but when you see it YOU KNOW. Alix Thomsen is a Paris designer and though this sample from her portfolio is a broad mic of styles YOU JUST KNOW. Also, Paris architecture rules all.

Interior Designer Suzanne Rheinstein is known for her signature style that is often described as elegant civility—“fewer things but better things”—encompassing a mixture of beautiful objects, furniture styles, personal art, painted surfaces and great attention to comfort, textures, details and light. “Living well everyday is much more important than getting your house together only for special occasions.” Such beautiful, magazine-worthy spaces Suzanne has created in a range of styles. This is a random selection from her portfolio.

A remodeled Iowa City home

Posted on Mon, 24 Jan 2022 by KiM

I am such a huge fan of Jessica Helgerson Interior Design, as you may have come to realize over the years. Her team’s ability to take homes with history, filled with original details, and sympathetically remodel them to make them functional for today’s lifestyle is always impeccable and so perfectly executed. This home in Iowa City takes you back in time yet is contemporary and vivacious. I could not love this more. (Lead designer: Chelsie Lee; Architect: CWB Architects; Photos: Christopher Sturman)
