A lot of us are compelled to stay home in these dangerous times. Others have no choice but to go out into the big, bad world to help others or keep the wheels turning. “Located in the bustling neighborhood of the 6th district in Vienna, this 300sqm apartment is a place of retreat for a well-travelled design aficionado. The apartment is divided in two units with seamless connection through wooden sliding doors. High ceilings and big windows create an overall spacious feel. The bright open-plan living, kitchen and dining space is the center of the apartment where friends come together for long dinners and endless talks. A composition of custom-made interiors, wooden furniture, rough linen and carpets, selected mid-century vintage finds and unique objects complement the general monochrome and understated design concept.”

With its restrained palette and casual sophistication this carefully curated home is indeed no ordinary apartment. A signature design by Annabelle Kutucu.

More liveable glamour by the talented Lisa Gilmore, but this time it is art deco mixed with arts and crafts. William Morris wallpaper pairs with Frank Lloyd Wright fabric in the study. Some leopard print chairs add some extra ZING in the living room. Random – just how I like my interiors.

The brief was to update this apartment in Sydney’s heritage listed interwar Free Classical style Astor building. What resulted was sophisticated modern living while respecting and restoring the heritage bones. The stunning inner city Sydney views are an added bonus. My favourite part? After 30 years of stale decor and small rooms, Gramercy Design took this 1400 sq ft Lower Fifth Avenue apartment to a whole other lofty level by opening it and making it conducive to entertaining. The kitchen is the money shot. So simple yet perfectly executed in a fairly small space. Stashing that photo in my inspiration folder.
