Sunday quickie

Posted on Sun, 30 Jan 2011 by KiM

Jo mentioned in her post yesterday that this weekend is our last blog-free weekend, and while she kind of broke that rule by blogging, I am doing the same. I thought I’d get some blogging out of the way that I was supposed to do last week. Before I get to that, we’ve had people leave comments here and there asking about whether we’re on Facebook and Twitter. Some members of my family have also been driving me nuts about this so over the holidays my husband got us up and running on both, and has been maintaining them ever since. Although Jo and I already have our hands full, hopefully we’ll be able to start getting more involved. So in the meantime check us out on Facebook here, and Twitter here.

Alrighty, so last week we had 2 new advertisers join us that I wanted to mention. The first being J.Covington Home, a shop based in Portsmouth, NH that now has an online store of beautiful furniture, lighting, pillows, art, antiques and home accents. Unfortunately they do not ship internationally so I will have to love their pieces from afar, but folks in the States can take advantage. I devoured their website and below are some of my favourite finds.

After the jump is an introduction to another new advertiser….

Curtainworks has joined us as an advertiser and this online shop only started out in 2009. They sell MANY styles of curtains to appeal to the masses. My favourite curtain is a grommet top in a thick sailcloth canvas, and to my delight Curtainworks carries this curtain in several colours. (I have been searching Ottawa for weeks for this exact curtain in white for my dressing room with NO LUCK). I was sad to notice that this shop also only ships within the U.S. 🙁 For those in the U.S. shipping is free on orders over $100. 🙂 Here are a few product shots from their website.

Green Light District Design

Back one Sunday in August I blogged about a new shop here in Ottawa called Green Light District Design. It’s one of my favourite shops that I must stop in whenever I’m visiting the Byward Market. I’m stoked to have GLDD as one of our new sponsors and thought I’d do another little intro to showcase some of their gorgeous wares. The following photos I took on a trip to the shop (sadly I only had my iPhone with me) when I stopped by to pick up some Christmas gifts for my mom…and of course, a couple things for me. 😉

Think unique and timeless, a cool and contemporary simplicity of design that still retains its soul.

They had the most beautiful saddle leather and iron butterfly chair in a stunning red sitting in the window…

You have no idea how badly I covet the chair below. David and Deborah, the owners, took it down from the window and insisted I try it out. BIG MISTAKE. It’s like SITTING ON A CLOUD. Or what I would think sitting on a cloud would feel like. 🙂

This table, the Loves Me, Loves Me Not 8 petal table, is so cute I can’t stand it.

This coat rack almost made it home with me.

I picked up a gorgeous hand-painted table runner and a dinner plate/platter for my mom (haven’t had a chance to get a photo of those) and the following vase (I have one from the same artist).

Below is my current dining table centrepiece. I adore the dishes I have collected so far from this shop, and since I don’t really have open shelving to show them off, I decided to just stack them on a tray on my table. We use them all the time, and I just love how they don’t line up when stacked because each piece is handmade and therefore has subtle differences in shape and pattern (the table runner is from GLDD as well).

After the jump are more incredible pieces of furniture I found around Green Light District Design.

Jackson Street Furniture

Jackson Street Furniture is a new sponsor of ours that we’re really excited about because it’s MODERN! HIP! CREATIVE! Adam Fizgerald is the genius behind this company. Having trained as an architect and worked on large scale projects for many years, Adam craved working on design at an intimate, human scale. So he began designing furniture….and the kicker? His pieces are reasonably priced! My favourite is the NO PLANE JANE storage unit (first photo below), which would be perfect in the library I hope to have when I do the additions to my house.

Über talented Paige Russell has done it again… and just in time for Christmas.  These sweet little characters are part of her new range,  Müzo Collectibles. Made from porcelain and sustainably harvested black walnut or maple, Caribou, Polar Bear, and Sheep live in The Woods, their natural habitat of silk-screened wood veneer trees. If you click on her button in the right-hand column you’ll find even more fab gift ideas.

be still

This is a quick post to introduce a new advertiser to DTI that I’m really excited about because it’s a Etsy shop and I am completely obsessed with Etsy. The shop, bestillshop.etsy.com,  was created by Sarah Robinson and here’s a bit from her profile: “be still homewares was founded in January 2009. My name is Sarah Robinson and I’m an Australian Industrial and Graphic Designer with a love of fabric and pattern. On moving to Bangkok in 2008 I was amazed and excited by the fantastic fabrics available here. I’ve decided to do something with all of this fabric. I currently live between Australia and Thailand.” These said fabrics are gorgeous and she has several pages full of cushion covers and napkins that I’d love to get my hands on. My favourites are below. (Welcome Sarah!)
