A double-height void is the centrepiece of this extension to an Edwardian house by De Rosee Sa. The Dulwich home is in an area with strict heritage guidelines and the client wished to enhance the character of the property while remaining sympathetic to the surroundings. A wonderful example of how modern and heritage can work in harmony with each other.

Ebony and Ivory

The designer calls the project “Ebony and Ivory”. I call it a sophisticated, contemporary home with not only a play on black and white but texture and the clean lines of modern design.  By Chicago-based interior design firm SKIN.

Same block different apartment

It’s the same glass factory conversion as Friday and the same designers. It’s the same Belgian aesthetic but a totally different apartment. Admittedly the overall space is smaller but the sense of style is just as big. By Æ Studio.

I am curious… if you purchased a very old home with loads of character, complete with peeling wallpaper, peeling paint, original doors and windows etc…..how much would you want to keep vs salvage and live with? Kudos to the owners of this home in Pau, France (Lisa and Julien Ménard and their 5 kids) for maintaining much of the period details. Stripping it of its history would have been cruel. Belgian beauty

“A former glass factory was transformed into single family homes … The project started from a bare construction. The idea was to design the entire interior in an industrial cosy natural way. The use of chalk, concrete, steel windows, marbles, oak floorings and linen curtains. To have an energy neutral building had never an effect on the interior but is a great plus. This project is a perfect example of an added value in a beautiful collaboration between client and interior architect.”

It’s a masterclass in modern Belgian design. The spare beauty, the use of grey, the simple material palette. DS Apartment in Gent by Æ Studio.
