A backyard oasis

Posted on Sun, 25 Jul 2021 by KiM

I have backyards on the brain as my husband and I continue to work on ours with seemingly never ending projects. Yesterday I finally painted out our white garage/shed and the difference is incredible (you can check it out here). I love this backyard with lots of hardscaping elements which is what we did alot of in our backyard to keep the maintenance (and watering) down. This is perfect for a family and entertaining. Alteration and change of use to this heritage listed commercial space has resulted in two levels of luxury loft like living.  Think old posts and beams meet marble, linen fluttering at old windows looking out onto the city, beautiful new details in an old colonial structure. Welcome to Casa Sa Mar – a ”señorial” townhouse in the center of Sóller, Mallorca, beautifully and carefully restored from its 1896 origins. 450 sqm, ceiling heights of up to 5m and a large courtyard with a pool, with walking distance to the sea, mountains and everything that the beautiful village of Sóller has to offer. Created by Durietz Design & Development. Intricate tile floors, an adorned olive wood parquet, crystal ball staircase ornaments, a solid piece marble sink, and much more – all of the original details have been kept and carefully restored. What a stunner!

This home is a work of art. The juxtaposition of the ancient farmhouse structure with the modern, minimalist design of the interior is breathtaking. Designed by Barcelona-based design gallery and interior design advisory office Miquel Alzueta Projects.

Dark and dramatic merges old and new

With a design concept informed by its distinctive facade this Melbourne house seamlessly combines the old and the new. Walls of steel and glass allow the light to flood into the extension’s interior. Dark and moody is dramatic, not drab. The Dutch Gable House by Melbourne-based Austin Design Associates.
