Susanna Cots – transversal expression

Posted on Thu, 18 Jul 2013 by KiM

Susanna Cots is an interior designer from Barcelona and this home is her creation. A skin made of wood that transversally crosses the housing is Susanna Cots‘ “leitmotiv” to develop this interior design project, the home in Barcelona of two book lovers. The starting point of the housing is located in its central nucleus where the dining room’s ceilings are dressed in wood that, at the same time, shapes the furniture that holds the TV and a bioethanol fireplace. This wooden wrapping continues across the ceiling and separates the living and the water areas inside and outside, and is subtly bathed in natural light in the bathrooms. The warm area reaches the suite defining the sleeping area and finally becoming the bed head. I really love the idea of a feature that carries from one space to the next. There’s something very inviting about that… it’s like an invisible force guiding you. And in this case it seems to act as a blanket. What a beautiful home.

Pattersons is an architecture firm from New Zealand that is responsible for the creation of some really spectacular homes. Not too fussy or over the top, they specialize in modern designs but keep it simple and elegant. The sheep seem to approve. 🙂

Suite Arquitetos

Two cool, or should that be too cool, spaces by Brazilian firm Suite Arquitetos. A stylin’ little apartment with a clever movable TV and a patio area with an amazing lighting system. The jury is still out on the astroturf 🙂

Even the urban cool have sofas

A few days ago I posted an edgy inner city pad by Nicholas Gurney. Comment was made about the lack of a sofa and a TV. Back came the retort that a funky inner city type would be so busy leading a funky inner city life that he wouldn’t need a sofa or a TV. Now the apartment is for sale (here) with just a few more photos that we haven’t seen already and gee whiz what  do I spy? Sofa, TV and a table and chairs. So was it a case of furniture out for the judging of the Australian Interior Design Awards 2013 or furniture in for the real estate listing photos? Do the urban cool have sofas? 😉

tcct

Tirry Cindy and Tom Callebaut are the designers behind tcct, and interior architecture/design firm from Belgium. They are very in tune to their surroundings and how to create maximum impact with minimal spaces. Their spaces speak volumes without being too aggressive…except maybe that top photo. 🙂 Have a peek in their portfolio – they have even designed a chapel that is unlike any chapel I’ve ever seen.
