A rustic, industrial library by Jamie Banfield

Posted on Thu, 28 Jul 2016 by KiM

Beautiful slabs of walnut (I’m guessing here), reclaimed wood shelves, raw steel supports, some stunning artwork, a vintage typewriter (this one is incredible, it too is like art) together in a small space make for an ideal cozy library/workspace with a masculine, rustic, industrial feel to it. A relook at Mapesbury Road

It has been a few years since Jo featured Mapesbury Road, the home of stylist Marianne Cotterill. This utterly covetable home is currently available for shoots via 1st Option and they kindly sent over lots of juicy photos. This home speaks to me on so many levels. The architecture alone is incredible, then add in all of the absolutely stunning vintage furnishings and the heart palpitations begin. I can see myself forever moving pieces around from room to room trying out different combinations. I love this sooooo much. Thank you 1st Option for the reminder of how fabulous this home is.

York House

Oh York House by Patrick Lewis Architects, HOW I LOVE THEE!!!York House is an imposing mansion block on Upper Montagu Street in Marylebone, Central London. Our client purchased a large 2nd floor apartment, which had not been refurbished for over 45 years. Significant structural works were undertaken to produce an elegant apartment, which suited contemporary living requirements. Bedrooms were converted into ensuite bathrooms in a considerate manner without marginalizing the purity of the plan. Lastly, the living space was combined and the kitchen was moved away from the dark internal lightwell and relocated at the front of the property enjoying wonderful light and views. The palette was developed during visits to reclamation yards throughout Oxfordshire and London and the majority of materials where sourced from them. The strip flooring was reclaimed from the BBC in White City, Encaustic handmade tiles from Tuscany, Georgian Shutters from Oxford. We designed the kitchen to be an eclectic mix of different element from the French Armoire, to the concrete worktop, to industrial ductwork all made by local crafts people.

Urban Cowboy Nashville

From the folks who bought you the Urban Cowboy B&B in Brooklyn comes their partner (or should that by “howdy partner”) property in Nashville. So hip it hurts. A riot of pattern and colour where high Victorian meets Wild West meets artisan and kitsch. Time to round up the posse and make trails to Tennessee for a getaway.

Vintage love

Jo and I are still in long weekend mode trying to recuperate from all the chocolate and general bad-for-you food that was consumed so I leave you with this fabulous home I spotted on Elle Decoration Sweden’s website. It is vintage Swedish with a twist. Instead of pale wood against a white backdrop this home is filled with teak/mahogany tones which really pop. With some classic mid-century chairs, funky lighting, industrial and rustic touches it’s pretty spot-on in my books. (styling: Edin Memic Kjellvertz, photos: Andrea Papini)
