Applied colour

Posted on Mon, 3 Jul 2023 by midcenturyjo

With its post war modernist bones it would be easy to reproduce a retro 50’s decor or worse demo and create a bare modern interior. Instead Warsaw-based interior design firm Colombe celebrated the building painting everything white then appling pops of colour framed like works of art and filling it with a mix of midcentury and contemporary pieces. Fun, fabulous and fresh, a liveable, loveable family home.

A Wisconsin Lakeside Villa

I saw these photos in the portfolio of Palm Beach and Wisconsin based interior designer Jessica Jubelirer and thought WOW what incredible homes she has worked her magic on…. and then I discovered from this AD article these are all from the same very VERY large home in Wisconsin. Not only is this home insanely huge (14,000-square-foot, six-bedroom, numerous sitting rooms and dining rooms, a mudroom with flower cutting station, bowling alley, gym, swanky garage) but each space is like it’s own little world with tons of character and personality – a little surprise as you move from one room to the next. What a dreamy home! Photos: Douglas Friedman; styling: Mieke ten Have.

A riot of colour in a Park Slope townhouse

Posted on Wed, 28 Jun 2023 by KiM

If this isn’t defined as “bold colour” then I don’t know what is. And BOLD in all caps is how I would define this. Such a whimsical, almost fairytale home where you leave one room and enter another and your level of intrigue and excitement would keep growing. I would love to meet these homeowners as I would guess their personalities match this eclectic, energetic vibe. Designed by Studio SFW.

This 10,000 square foot Beacon Hill project took three years to complete. Built in 1835, the five-bedroom Greek Revival townhouse had seen grander days. In 2001, a young Boston couple purchased the building from the Unitarian Church’s Beacon Press. Having been converted into a warren of cubicles, all five levels of the interior required gut renovations. The final outcome captured 19th-century European grandeur in a modern setting within Boston’s most historic neighborhood.
A bit more traditional than I typically gravitate towards but that lovely yellow kitchen, cheerful stairwell and so many gorgeous bathrooms left me smitten and I had to share this with you all. Designed by Heidi Pribell.

A renovated 15th century Tudor in Kent

We worked closely along side the client and architect Ptolemy Dean for two years on this historical renovation and extension project. A complete renovation of a 15th Century Manor House set in the most beautiful countryside was not without it’s challenges. There were only a few flat walls in the extension and natural materials were used throughout. The result was truly magnificent and a triumphant and happy conglomeration of many passionate people.
This is about as British as it gets and I am completely head over heels for this home. It is like a giant hug. So many layers and textures and extremely warm and inviting. Another project by the talented Sarah Vanrenen. (Read more about it here).
