Enfolded in rustic grounds, the Idlewild casts a dreamy chiaroscuro, bringing depth to the past and light to the present. Rich browns, verdant greens, and sweet creams are piqued by amber, poppy, indigo, and pink. Decorative Arts and Crafts textiles ornament linens and wools and court recherché collectibles, candelabras, and art tended by picturesque glazing and pastoral redwood paneling, both original and revived. Ariel Okin is the founder of her eponymous firm, Ariel Okin Interiors, a New York based, full-service interior design firm. Ariel’s signature style can be interpreted as “traditional with a twist” – warm, livable and elegant spaces, with an edited, contemporary and practical approach. A deft use of color, emphasis on clean lines, and mix of bespoke and antique items are hallmarks of her aesthetic, yet no two projects are alike; Ariel believes every home should reflect its owner. Many of these photos are from her home in Westchester, NY which I adore for its whimsical, slightly boho and inviting vibes.

Restored and reconceived, this lush estate in Ross, California, exudes a balmy calm with a sexy swagger. Earthy and sumptuous, playfully plush, it teems with the effervescent cool of a YSL muse—both ageless and of the moment. A 70’s dream this is! This is as about as British as it gets. Christopher Hodsoll has a unique ability to create cosy and comfortable spaces out of grand period rooms. As well as being adept at making a modern interior look as if it had been built up over years by a collector. Using his cabinet-of-curiosities style to juxtapose boldly luxurious antiques alongside more contemporary items to create opulent, yet relaxed living environments, he recognises that interior decorating sometimes means creating an atmosphere rather than a particular look.
