My dream cabin getaway

Posted on Tue, 29 Jan 2019 by KiM

I have always dreamt about having a cabin on a lake somewhere on the outskirts of Ottawa to spend weekends enjoying nature and the quiet of the country life. This cabin may not have much going on in the interior (which is typically what you get from an architect’s portfolio), but it is breathtaking in its simplicity. I would absolutely maintain a minimalist approach with this space and keep the colour palette neutral with some pastel accents. You know, that Scandi vibe. You basically have to with all that pine. Hill House

“A compact two-story hillside mid-century received an extensive and thoughtful remodel; the only original elements to survive are the burnished block central fireplace core and the steel beams and window frames.”

Intricate details such as screens and scones were replicated and architectural materials carefully chosen. Think custom tiles, Western Red Cedar for ceilings, rift-sawn White Oak and all the modern conveniences such as a screening room. Hey it’s L.A. after all! Hill House V by The Archers.

The Carriage House

Bucolic bliss with just the slightest touch of boho in Bedford, NY by Virginia Tupker Interiors. Tupkert, who has worked for House & Garden, Vogue and Vogue Living has a passion for textiles which she uses deftly as a counterfoil to the rustic stone and old boards in this old carriage house. It’s rough yet refined, cosy yet chic. The perfect country getaway without the country kitsch.

A modern ski chalet

Posted on Fri, 21 Dec 2018 by KiM

Tip #1 for how to deal with winter (the kind of winter that involves below freezing temperatures and lots of snow): find yourself the coolest chalet to hang out it, and take in the views of the snow covered mountains while standing 3 inches from the fireplace. This place will do just fine. Designed by Laurence Simoncini.

A Montana ski house

Posted on Thu, 13 Dec 2018 by KiM

Some people enjoy the winter season and partake in activities like skiing. I on the other hand would prefer to spend my time bundled up in leggings and a big sweater, huddled under a blanket drinking tea next to a roaring fire. This beautiful house next to the ski mountains in Montana would be the perfect place to do that while wishing spring would arrive. Designed by Shawn Henderson.
