Working on a Saturday

Posted on Sat, 25 Apr 2020 by midcenturyjo

Another week has passed. Another Saturday. Some of us can see that elusive light at the end of that clichéd tunnel. Others continue to be trapped in the nightmare that is the corona pandemic. It’s still a scary world out there with most of us in lockdown in our homes and weekend work (or any work) is somewhere in a hazy future. And in that hazy future if we have to drag ourselves into work on a Saturday it better be somewhere stylish like the DOK Office in Kortrijk by Belgian design firm Decancq-Otté Architecten.

Working on a Saturday

Week after week we are compelled to stay home in these dangerous times. Some of us have no choice but to go out into the big, bad world to help others or keep the wheels turning. Strangely we are all heroes. Those who bravely work and those who responsibly stay in to stop the spread of COVID-19. Our thoughts though should also turn to those who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. They are the often forgotten victims of this tragedy. One day, on the other side, I hope we all have somewhere we can whinge about when we drag ourselves into work on a weekend. It won’t matter if it’s stylish or butt ugly. What will matter is that life returns to “normal” and if we’re lucky towards something a little better, a little kinder, a little more stable. Oh and I lied. It’s always better to go to work on a Saturday somewhere stylish like these sophisticated offices by Henry Francis Design.

Shoutout to healthcare workers

Posted on Sun, 12 Apr 2020 by KiM

A big shoutout to all the healthcare workers out there who continue to show up to work and risk their lives during this pandemic. I read an article the other day about a nurse who would get in her car and cry from fear each day before heading to work. I cannot imagine. I worry about my cousin Cristina who is a newly graduated paramedic in Toronto. These people can’t hide in their homes like the rest of us. Donna is a healthcare provider and sent us a link to the obstetrics and gynecology office in Nashville, TN where she works.  Designed by Pencil & Paper Co., “it gives us a serene environment for some of life’s stressful moments“. Thank you Donna. XOXO (And I must wish my dear blog partner Jo a happy birthday!!! a virtual XOXO to you too!)

As I wrote last week and sadly will be writing for many weeks to come a lot of us are compelled to stay home in these dangerous times. Others have no choice but to go out into the big, bad world to help others or keep the wheels turning. I can’t use my usual spiel about being dragged into work on a weekend. It doesn’t feel right. So many of us have lost our jobs. I’ll just share this stylish workplace instead. Office 1 by Lawless & Meyerson.
