Antonio Martins Interior Design 2

Thanks to designer Antonio Martins for sharing another of his projects with us. The house is a casual weekend retreat in the Sonoma wine country of California. Once again Martins plays with an eclectic mix of wood and vintage, industrial and asian influences, a white canvas for striking art. A stylish, fresh, fun and at times quirky home perfect for an escape from the urban grind.

Antonio Martins Interior Design 1

An eclectic mix of antique and contemporary, the found and the precious. This Tennessee Street, San Francisco home by interior designer Antonio Martins is about an artist's soul and an artist's eye. A base note of white builds with layers of texture and warm muted colours building to a crescendo of vibrant red. Timeless, unique, passionate just like the designer and owner.

A couple new books

I got my hands on a couple new books this past week that I wanted to share with you all today. This first one I LOVE. L O V E. It's written by a mother/daughter team - Suzanne McGrath is a former Style Editor and Producer at Martha Stewart Living Television and her daughter Lauren worked in the fashion features department at Teen Vogue magazine. Good Bones, Great Pieces is their first book. In this book Suzanna and Lauren discuss how they believe that every home should have a core group of seven pieces that can ive in almost any setting and will always be in style: the demilune, the dresser, the side table, the love seat, the bench, the slipper chair and the occasional chair. And with lots of fantastic photos by one of my all-time favourite photographers Lucas Allen, they give awesome examples of different uses for these pieces. It really made me think about what furniture pieces I should be investing in. You can pick up this must-have book here: Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Indigo, Powell's

New finds reading guide

my latest finds ... Indian wood blocks

Time to settle in. Time to surf the net. Time to share "new to me" blogs. Yes it's time for a DTI reading guide. There is so much to explore. I hope you have the time :)

Parisian mod

Here is another Domus Nova property. This one seems to have a Parisian vibe....and then the owners have added in some modern furnishings. I have to say the red sofa and chair and leather sectional-looking sofa are really throwing me off - I'd replace those with a large brown leather chesterfield and maybe a ratty vintage Louis XVI armchair. The windows are to die for though! A beautiful collection of traditional finds and contemporary pieces. This home offers open-plan space with original features such as stripped wood floors, high ceilings and large arch windows. Rustic furnishings including distressed dressers, original shutters and god adorned glass shades, give unparalleled character. Against a palette of neutral whites and greys, bold armchairs, books and photos inject life. The owner is obviously creative with a zest for bohemian living.
