A dark boutique-style retreat in North London

I am so grateful Sue Miller of Mad Cow Interiors contacted me because I am absolutely in love with her dark, eclectic style. Sue is a colour, pattern and texture enthusiast (her home was featured in Abigail Ahern's book Colour) and this is very evident in this North London boutique retreat project. I don't typically lead off a post with a bedroom but in this case it is the icing on the cake. The path was cleared for Mad Cow to collaborate with a specialist to relocate & redesign the kitchen. We added bathrooms you’d want to melt into and created storage solutions without compromising the flow of space. The sunken living room was extended and dug out to create drama out of those awkward Victorian half landings and in keeping with our signature style, every room featured different floor finishes and striking wall treatments. We designed & decorated reclaimed barn wood into bed headboards and had the furniture custom made specifically. On top of all this, we layered curated art & vintage finds selected from various travels and we used photographic prints framed from our own collection of work. The finished result has all the luxury of a boutique hotel but with a characterful homely touch. With its crisp Egyptian Cotton bed linens and towels, its complete range of dinner service, crockery and utilities. Every inch of this home is to die for!! I love it Sue!!!

Full of Grace

Take a two bedroom Art Deco era house that has seen better times. Give the old girl a well deserved makeover with a spacious modern extension. Take care to marry the old with the new. Final result? A stunning family home with a sophisticated colour palette of black, white and blush. I love the repetition of the stacked tile motif. An office converted into an elegant apartment

My obsession for London-based interior designer Hubert Zandberg's work continues with the complete redesign of this office space in Marylebone, London into a 2-story apartment. Classy, Hollywood Regency-esque with elegant and sophisticated details that have me swooning.

Kitchen envy - latest from Henrybuilt

Henrybuilt. What kitchen dreams are made of. I have been a huge fan of this American company's work for years (previous feature here) and I continue to be impressed with their craftsmanship and attention to detail. And I am still dreaming of the day I can have my own Henrybuilt kitchen. Given the minuscule size of my current kitchen, I totally understand the importance of having a place for everything and having functional cabinetry. Half of my cabinets are a pain in the ass to access which is ridiculous given I don't have enough storage space to begin with. These folks would solve all my problems. I get so giddy just thinking about what they could do to my kitchen. Not only do they create dream kitchens but interactive wall panels, wardrobes, bathrooms and furniture and anything else you could want built out of wood.

Stalking an architect's home in Sydney

Stalking the Sydney suburb of Paddington a house caught my eye. "Don't I know you from somewhere?" I mused. I'm sure I've been inside before. Then I remembered that I had featured this house by Aileen Sage Architects before. I loved it then and I love it now. It's great seeing how the house and the family have matured over the past few years especially the garden. I also like seeing how a real estate agent perceives the property as opposed to the architect's portfolio photos. Link here while it lasts.
