WINKS

... another contender for my new home?

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. So what's in this week?

  • The word is out and we have to add our voices to all the hubbub over Pia Jane Bijkerk's new book. Way back in 2007 we first met Pia and she has generously shared her work with us over the past 2 years. Now she has her first book published. YEAH!!! Paris:Made by Hand available here. Can't wait to get my hands on a copy!

  • Design Victoria recently launched What is Eco-design? A practical online resource for industrial, graphic, fashion and textile designers, What is Eco-design? provides solid grounding in eco-design principles and practice. It explores the potential impacts of design in the industrial, graphic, textile and fashion industries and aims to empower designers to work towards more sustainable design practices. A valuable resource.

  • Filipino furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue is renowned for his fusion of eco sensitive resources with high end design. Love his work! Using rapidly renewable eco friendly materials sourced in the Philippines , Kenneth features bamboo that is not endangered and therefore slows down the degeneration of the environment. Cobonpue also uses rattan and abaca rope, a completely natural fibre that comes from the core of the banana tree. The result is a unique collection with a serious wow factor! Available in Australia at Hermon & Hermon ( a swoon worthy Melbourne institution).

  • Ulrica emailed to introduce StyleRoom. "I thought you might be interested in a new community site for home decoration, which has just been launched in the UK. The site is called StyleRoom and is aimed at people like yourself who enjoy interior design, decoration and like sharing experiences and ideas with others. It's a community place where you get inspiration and inspire others by uploading images of your home. StyleRoom was launched in Sweden a year ago and with more than 80,000 home interior photos we have Europe's largest database of home decoration images." I love online communities like this. So inspiring!

  • Udessi is a new online gallery offering contemporary Australian art, craft & design, dedicated to showcasing & promoting Australian artists with unique work and products. Brisbane based (yeah!) Kim emailed to let us know what's new. "Over the past couple of months, a few new artists have joined Udessi and we have added their work to the online gallery, as well as some fantastic new pieces from our existing talent. I have attached just a couple of images of work I thought you might like – these gorgeous abstract drawings are by Melbourne artist Belinda Kemp from Gretchenmist, and we are very proud to now offer her prints through the gallery. To view more of Belinda’s work or find out more about the other artists we represent, please visit our website."

  • Couldn't let this WINKS pass without a shout of "Happy First Blog Birthday" to our blog buddy Manvi at Mochatini. You have come so far in such a short time and the blog is looking hot! Keep it coming!

  • Now I have my heart set on this 1930's fire station that has been semi converted to a house. Up for auction a few days after the other house we have our eyes on. Typical! LOVE this one even if it doesn't have a fire pole (my husband's first question). It does have a WWII air raid shelter in the back yard though!

WINKS

.... what the real estate websites don't show you.
Is this my new bathroom?
The rest of the old house has potential but this is definitely a challenge!

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. So what's in this week?

  • Inspired by his Norwegian heritage and woodworking traditions handed down through his family furniture designer Andrew Moe has created the Oslo Collection. Every piece in the collection is crafted from reclaimed timber beams. It's a Scandinavian aesthetic meets Japanese economy of design. The pale blond hue and smooth wax finish just makes me want to stroke these pieces and watch them age with time. More info at Studio Moe.

  • I couldn't resist. I just had to feature the fabulous eco craftiness of Australian designer Morgan Wills. Morgan's Cast offs range is made from 100% recycled finely woven woollen jumpers and her Play with me range utilises everything from vintage fabrics, designer off cuts, linen & cotton tea towels and tablecloths from yesteryear. Too too cute and vibrantly colourful. I seriously need some of those felt beads for my winter wardrobe.

  • Glam and just a little different? London based Ivory Pearl Interiors website will satisfy your craving for all things silver embossed, french, rococo or mirrored. The papillon silver wardrobe would be gorgeous in a boudoir.

  • I'm in love! I need this green Chinese chair in my life .... now! Oh my, oh my! Celebrate Pagoda Red's new website and become eligible to win this 19th century Chinese roundback chair. Go to Pagoda Red and subscribe before May 30th for a chance to win. Actually you'll be there for quite awhile. So many lovely lovely pieces.

  • Stephanie emailed, "We wanted to send you a quick email to let you know about Cardboard Safari's newest full-body figure product, Rambling Robbie (just launched last week). Robbie is sure to add a little wildlife to any home decor. Great for gifting, kid's room decor, or just something fun to place around the home or office........" This isn't a winkaroo it's a winkarhino (ooooh sorry about that). Now what could I do with a full bodied rhino?

  • And let's finish with two blogs. Angie Henry is a stay-at-home-mom/artist trying to make the best and most beautiful out of the everyday. "I love to make the mundane fun. I hope that I can inspire someone out there to be creative and love their home and their life!" Her blog is Angie Henry Designs. Enjoy!

Victoria is an interior decorator and artist in Westchester, NY. Her blog Art House Design showcases her work, musings on art, design, life style and the places she comes across on her journeys.Lots of lovely eye candy.

WINKS

.... on my inspiration board

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. So what's in this week?

  • Crave acrylic? Lust for lucite? Then Spectrum West will make you weak at the knees. They are launching their collection this spring at ICFF. It's clear that my heart belongs to perspex. What about yours?

  • The drama, the passion or should that be patina. Luxe looking and definitely statement pieces check out Boca Do Lobo. And then there are the limited edition pieces!

  • Now for the too too cute! Check out Lapin & Me. It's a wonderland of the hand-made, the nostalgic and the unusual.

  • Loxii is a vinyl wall graphics company based out of Las Vegas. While Chris Levy and Stewart Christensen have designed most of the graphics they have also partnered with three other designers. Samantha Hahn from New York, Gisela Here from Buenos Aires, and Nicole Ketchum from West Hartford, Connecticut. The online site is new and they are trying to develop a community based design company with design competitions and lots of custom work. My love affair with decals is still going strong (I rent, I love) especially with great new designs coming on the market. Good luck guys!

  • Case Jernigan is an up and coming artist who emailed to introduce his work. I love it particularly his portraits. Take a look for yourself.

  • Spring is sprung and Matthew Mead is up to his fabulous styling, culinary and entertainment tricks again. Easter is just next week so he's just in time.

  • Yuki Murata emailed, "... my business started when friends commissioned me to make their wedding china (the coral pattern) back in 2004 ... not much these days for affordable hand painted china - Meissen and Royal Copenhagen are out of most people's price range - I really try to keep my pricing realistic, everyone deserves something original and hand made. Anyway, I just launched my online store moderngoods." Love your work Yuki. Especially love your fish sculptures. Now where could I fit these in my house?
Quite a diverse lot this week. Don't forget the mega easter chock-a-block gorge yourself silly reading guides next weekend. Can never get too much of a good thing (and easter eggs)!

Elections, thrifting and garden gurus

It's Saturday. Election day in my home state of Queensland. Don't know the results yet as polls haven't closed. Up early. Vote. Trawl the thrift stores, couple of house inspections (still looking, very jaded by now) and I'm exhausted. Settle in to write WINKS when I visit a site sent to us and my spirits lift. Knibb design gardens that speak to your heart. Flowing hills of grass, sweet little shell details dotting gravel paths, garden rooms and garden getaways. Think rolling hills and clipped grass, meadows and ponds. So here's a very abridged version of WINKS. With spring sprung in the Northern Hemisphere maybe this is just the inspiration to start thinking about the garden.

Knibb Design have opened a new showroom with CL Sterling & Son in Venice, California which is what started me on this garden adventure. An invitation to the opening lead me to garden gurus and gorgeous lighting. Here are just a few examples.

WINKS

... at my sister's commitment ceremony today. Got her a couple of goats! More below.

WINKS - weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we've found and things we think you'll want to see. If you'd like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we'll link you. So what's in this week?

  • I'm still totally hooked on anything Florence Broadhurst and would kill for one of these beautiful rugs from Australian handwoven rug specialists Cadrys. Bob & Mark Cadry will soon be bound for the USA to reveal their gorgeous Florence Broadhurst Collection, launching in both Los Angeles and New York. Four decades ago Florence and Cadry patriarch Jacques would chat about their love of textiles and rugs and now the family company "re-unites" them again. See more here.

  • Wow! Love glass mosaics, love these fun examples from Trend. It's their new Wallpaper Collection. And the colours!! Daffodil yellows, peony pinks, cornflower blues and meadow greens.

  • Camilla Hounsell Halvorsen emailed, "My chair Drops showed at Stockholm furniture fair, made out of leftover textiles, inner tube and steel legs. Dusk poufs made of leftover textiles. Treat bowls. Recycled lampshade frames with colorful threads makes perfect bowls! (For sale at etsy." Wild Camilla!.

  • Frou-Frou & Claude - luxury screen makers based in London. Not only beautiful upholstered screens but lovely staging on the website too.

  • Brad and Ashley emailed to introduce their new Etsy store Vintage Renaissance for a quirky take on vintage finds. I know Kim LOVES their Vintage suitcase pet bed. Good luck guys!

  • Today my little sister is getting married. Well commitment ceremony is what we have here. It's a wonderful family day. But what do you buy two middle aged (OMG I'm older than her!) women who have too much of everything and have warned you that they want no presents? You give the present to someone who really needs it. I bought a couple of goats here and I'm sure you can find something similar in your home country. Congrats girls! We love you!
