Chalet de la Pointe des Jésuites

Set on Pointe des Jésuites along Lac des Écorces in Barkmere (Québec), the chalet occupies a historically rich site once used by a religious community and is designed to honor both its past and its natural surroundings. Rooted in the tradition of Laurentian cottages, this project by La Shed Architecture, adopts a contemporary approach that carefully preserves the mountain, lake, and forest ecosystem. Elevated on stilts and minimally anchored to the ground, the compact structure protects mature trees and remains visually discreet from the lake. The architecture unfolds in two sliding volumes: one housing open, double-height living spaces oriented toward the lake, and the other containing five bedrooms designed for large family gatherings and seasonal activities. Natural, enduring materials—such as cedar siding, stone, and exposed Douglas fir—reinforce a warm, timeless character that blends harmoniously with the landscape.
