Perhaps the most remarkable thing about the ‘Joyous Home’ project is the choice of a colour palette. Because in this renovation project colour is the protagonist. Our interest has focused on breathing new life into this property included on the protected heritage building list of the town. The original house, designed very early in the 20th century, is the result of the introduction of Modernisme… Few alterations had been made to the original house. Perhaps the most significant is the loss of the original kitchen facilities. In response, we have designed the room with a simple but expressive approach, which dialogues naturally with the originality of the house and at the same time it is functional from current demands. The original cupboard has been rescued, lacquered in red, in front of the new pine structure that supports the minimal elements of the kitchen.
This home in Castro Urdiales, Spain is SOOOO much fun, and I adore the bold colour choices that come together in really unique ways that adds a ton of interest. By Cristina Acha & Miguel Zaballa of Acha Zabella Arquitectos; photos: Luis Díaz Díaz

This historical Baix Empordà townhouse, originally dating back to the 16th century, is one of the oldest properties in this sought-after town of Pals, just a couple of kilometres from the nearest beaches of the Costa Brava. The house was originally divided into 3 properties but was remodeled to form a single house with 6 bedrooms. . The property occupies the main street of Pals, with half the property on one side and the other, which includes the garden and the pool, on the other side. Both houses are joined by an internal walkway. The property is full of period details and historic charm. It has been completely renovated by the current owners and has a lift, bathrooms and kitchens brand new and a music system throughout the house.
I must add it includes 6 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 3 reception rooms, interior courtyard, billiards room, wine cellar, outdoor terrace off the dining room, a watchtower with 360º views, swimming pool…. This property is absolutely incredible. For sale via Lucas Fox for €1,575,000.

Heidi Caillier never disappoints and is eager to embrace the history of a home and leave things like beautiful dark millwork untouched. And this is why I am her biggest fan. Along with her signature addition of slightly muted but always punchy colours and patterns strewn throughout this home gives off the coziest, effortlessly stylish, a wee bit European and timeless vibes. This deep and deliciously renovated home was transformed from modern farmhouse to something more timeless (and darker colours yessssss) and required the reuse of some pretty sweet existing pieces the owner already had. I adore how moody and not-so-trendy this home is, and I’m feeling the sort of old world gentlemen’s club elements. Anything beats modern farmhouse, amiright? I found these spaces on the Bennison Fabrics website and fell in love with the beautiful patterns. I am clearly a pattern girl, and a bit rare among these parts. A Canada Post mailperson just showed up at my door and I had to sign for the package so I opened the door and she saw inside my vestibule (covered in Farrow & Ball wallpaper) and says “Oh – what lovely wallpaper! You don’t see wallpaper very often” 🙂
