Lauren Lothrop Caron of Studio Laloc added soooo much warmth, personality and inviting touches to this historic Capitol Hill, Seattle home that I could not love it more. Lots of vintage finds, the most beautiful custom made sofa in a unique fabric (‘Flying Ducks Velvet’ by Mulberry Home), a dining room wrapped in Willian Morris wallpaper, the prettiest pink bedroom….I could definitively move right in.

Speaking of an exceptional commission… Gert Voorjans had the honour of designing two libraries for a passionate bibliophile in France. Two welcoming environments where the architecture invites visitors to read. But also two micro-cosmoses, just as meticulously crafted as the books by the famous authors that line the walls. Although the historic books are the absolute protagonists on the shelves, Voorjans still managed to discreetly deploy his visual vocabulary here. Photos: Tim Van de Velde
My desperation for a library (I don’t even own a single bookcase or bookshelf) has grown exponentially after finding this project. And it’s not just one but two libraries. With the dreamiest staircase leading to the second one. My brain and my heart are exploding with envy.

The apartment is located on the 4th floor of a residential house, which was built in 1905, in the historical area of Kyiv. The space itself is luminous: all the windows overlook a quiet green park, and the light freely streams through them. Because of the state of the building, a massive renovation of the flat was required. The process of dismantling revealed the rotten slabs and large cracks in the walls, and that flooring replacement is needed. We found an authentic alternative, namely an oak parquet, which is about 100 years old. The bedroom can be seen through the double door from the living room. The walls were painted on top of plaster, with the deep texture being left as it is. The angle between walls and ceiling was smoothed out — this was a popular solution for the old flats in Kyiv. Our solution was not to copy the “Parisian chic” tricks. This decorative element was produced by hand from gypsum, according to our 3D model. The bathroom is separated from the bedroom with a glass partition and a soft tulle. Photos: Yevhenii Avramenko
What a calm, soothing sanctuary Rina Lovko Design Studio created in this apartment. I’m fighting back tears reading this description and hoping the owner of this apartment is able to find refuge and peace in this space despite what is going on outside those windows 🙁

Transforming a stiff, unyielding late-medieval fortress into a dynamic family home: that was the challenge that Gert Voorjans faced in the Bavarian town of Coburg. The commission was anything but obvious: the moated Schloss had in no way been renovated to current standards of residential convenience.
Once the seat of an aristocratic family, the oldest section of the house dates back as far as the 16th century. However, various ad-hoc adaptations and expansions that were started in the 20th century had left the property an eclectic hodge-podge of architectural styles.
Gert evidently embraces the eclectic hodge-podge and ran with it, which makes this fortress of a home so dynamic and unexpected and filled with spaces that are pleasant to the eye each in their own way. Love it!

Stories start in all sorts of places. 1892 Piggott Castle’s story began. Using double thick brick exterior walls with 11 ft ceilings and 9 ft windows mirroring architecture from Rome’s seven hills, Piggott built his sanctuary. Fast forward to 1979, current owners saved, restored and treasured the castle. Now, it is available in all its historically cool glory. Once in a lifetime opportunity to own. The only registered castle in Portland. Brace yourself for a world filled with phenomenal views and inspirational living.
I never imagined I would find a castle for sale in Portland, Oregon but I had a good chuckle reading that it’s the only one. The rooms seem a little small and awkward shaped and the carpeting is really unfortunate but other than those details this is one fabulous home!!! Listing via James Edition.
