I hope to one day find myself with a home that needs serious renovations, where I make decisions on what original details should stay and mix it with clean lines of modern architecture. This apartment in the Literary Quarter of Madrid has beautiful textured walls and beams maintained from the original 1900 structure and it really makes the space that much more unique and intriguing. The dreamiest wall of built-in bookcases, mid-century vibes and accents in what you might say is Bachman Brown‘s signature colour of blue make this Greenwich Village apartment cozy and cohesive. I also really love the ochre shade of the bedroom walls.

I have admitted I am not a fan of white trim, so when I see designers take a creative approach with trim I will sing their praises. I love what NYC designer Bachman Brown did in this Fifth Avenue duplex, where much of the colour is in the trim and door frames and fireplace and bookshelf wall and the rest is left neutral to highlight the art and furnishings.

I love outdoor spaces to be a bit unexpected as much as I love the same with interiors. Chris Moss gardens are incredibly beautiful and take this concept to heart. Hard landscaping mixed with soft, ethereal plants, blurring the lines between traditional and modern.

I am always on board with spaces that have unique colour combinations and where there is not a lot of white trim and ceilings. Designer Nicola Harding hit the nail on the head with this modernized country house in Berkshire, England. This generous Georgian country house has been completely re-energised for family living. On the ground floor, entranceways and connecting spaces are painted in vibrant blues and greens. Living spaces – and the vast garden room – are bathed in natural light and filled with soft furnishings and found pieces that have been arranged in the centre of each room to create a feeling of intimacy. Upstairs, soft greys, soothing pinks and pale blues are teamed with patterned textiles that have banished any sense of stuffiness from this handsome home.
