When modern is warm

I had to share another to-die-for home designed by the talented folks of cityhomeCOLLECTIVE. Modern and a bit mid-century, with black and brass accents to add some drama and wood to keep things warm. I want that kitchen soooo badly, but I would settle for the rug in the space above.

Eclectic with a touch of gothic

I absolutely adore this house but I have really no idea what to call this. The architecture looks at times mid-century, or Spanish with a bit of 70’s hotel in the backyard. The decor style is retro mixed with modern and ethnic and a bit gothic….. Well, whatever this is I FREAKING LOVE IT!!! I have been a fan of Salt Lake City’s cityhomeCOLLECTIVE for a while now as they have such a unique, edgy, bold style and this project has to be my absolute favourite.

An open concept mid-century remodel

Now this is one seriously cool remodel. It is so good I sent some photos of the kitchen to one of my sisters who is looking to renovate hers soon. I hope to gawd hers ends up looking similar. Not many kitchens have a little funk like this one. Kudos to Veneer Designs on a job really well done. Let’s start with a before photo:

Look at it now!

A recently transplanted couple of creatives, who were also expecting twins during the remodel, had a clear vision of how to update and refine their post and beam home tucked into the treetops of Pacific Palisades. Taking cues from nature as well as the home’s architecture, an earthy and brave interpretation of midcentury design was applied to the new kitchen layout and adjoining spaces.  Mahogany cabinets with color blocking, red oak rift cut wall paneling, epoxy floors, glazed thin brick specialty tile, and ceramic light pendants commissioned from Heather Rosenman come together to create a unique composition. And here’s a before photo of the living room…

Toluca Lake home by Barbie Palomino

I really love this home in Toluca Lake, LA designed by Barbie Palomino. It is eclectic with bits of drama including unique wall art, accent colours used in rugs and textiles, gallery walls and some black. And featuring an adorable little pooch for added awesomeness.

A conversion with endless potential

Though this home is not really furnished I had to share because I have been dreaming about living in a rough, industrial, loft-like home for at least the past 20 years. Nothing like this exists in Ottawa so I can keep dreaming but if someone has £1,995,000 and is looking for something in London to put your stamp on, scoop this one up! Never mind that it looks like rats were eating the kitchen cupboards, and the painted floorboards are a bit rough…this 3 bedroom, 2,000 sq ft over 4 floors conversion from furniture-restoration workshops built in 1905 has SUCH AMAZING BONES. AH MAH GAWD!!! Listing here via The Modern House.
