I am completely blown away by this project I stumbled upon by Toronto-based architecture firm Audax. The exterior is pretty and original to the ‘hood and then the second you walk in the front door BOOM!!! Nothing that you could have imagined. I am especially smitten with the gorgeous bathrooms and that room in the roof peak. The homeowners of Bilateral House purchased a lot with a 116-year-old Period Revival home in a mature picturesque neighbourhood in Toronto. As avid collectors of contemporary art and vintage furniture, they wanted to build a modern gallery-inspired home with high ceilings to artfully display their collections. Responding to the homeowners’ vision and the City’s requirement to keep the front half of the original house, Audax sensitively restored and rebuilt the heritage façade, and designed a modern addition in the rear. However, the design solution ensured that both sides of the house could still relate to each other. To begin, Audax faithfully reconstructed the main façade with restored brick, new stucco and wood trim. Audax also rebuilt the roof to mirror the original design. Audax’s interior design strategy followed suit with a design that both honoured the original character of the house and satisfied the homeowners’ affinity for a modern gallery aesthetic.

It’s American Gothic (painting) meets American Pickers (television). It’s dramatic and moody and quirky and fun. It’s intimate spaces and soaring ceilings. It’s theatre and performance, oasis and sanctuary. It’s John Mellencamp’s Island Retreat in South Carolina by interior designer Monique Gibson and it’s fabulous.

An apartment in Monaco can only be one thing – STYLISH! This mid-century vibing pad has a Parisian chic vibe that I have come to expect from Monaco-based architectural duo Humbert & Poyet. The lighting throughout this space is fantastic – especially that spunik light over the dining table. WOWZERS!!! (No, I don’t understand the point of the hunk of steak art either – to each their own as they say…)

It’s Scandi monochrome done right. A stark, limited palette warmed by exposed brick accents and a rug of muted jewel colours. As for the piano! Love it. Private residence by Helsinki-based interior designer Laura SeppΓ€nen.

On Easter Monday my husband and I went to visit the Country Cat Sanctuary to help out and to hopefully foster a cat that was really in need of some TLC. We took Kobe home, fell in love with him, took him to the vets a couple of times and 4 days later found out he had feline leukemia and had him put down. It was an incredibly sad experience as I had high hopes for my little buddy, and I was devastated to hear how terrible his health was unbeknownst to everyone at the sanctuary. I will treasure the few days we had him and I am grateful I was able to show him what a real home was like, if only for those 4 days. R.I.P. Kobe XO
