Five Doors Down

Posted on Tue, 13 Sep 2016 by KiM

HELLOOOOOOOO dream home! I have said it before and I will never stop saying it – there is nothing I love more than a period home filled with mid-century and random vintage furnishings and lighting. Five Doors Down is a location home in the UK (of course, because they have the most incredible  homes) that is funky and just my style. Especially when there is an appearance by a black leather Togo sectional. Available via lordshippark.com.

Colours of India

I think it is really important to have your home reflect your personality and interests. The homeowner of this apartment is a world traveller and it is so meaningful and beautiful that her interior designer Peter Wilds incorporated her treasures brought back from travels in her space. Mixed in with a bit of mid-century modern and time-worn vintage pieces, it speaks volumes of the homeowner’s love of colour (that pink wall is amazing!) and travel, particularly to India. I was able to score a free midcentury ugly upholstery sectional couch off Instagram and had it reupholstered in “death black” python marine vinyl so it would hold up and clean up well with our dogs. I added a few sheepskin in case we needed a blanket or cushion. By the picture you can see all of this was met with approval from our boys. We have an English Mastiff named Steve McQueen and an Australian Kelpie named Hamilton.

1 – Will Pet Under Furniture work too? That is Minette. I swear she does not drink. But she was very tired..
2 – Cat on a Bed  … fat cat on a bed.
3 – Not exactly furniture but the  scale is used daily at my house. (she overheard my daughter saying she needs to lose some weight.. the cat, not the daughter)
4 – This is Minnette. She is lying on the floor half behind a massive mirror. about 5 feet  by 6 feet. She loves to hide behind it and attack anything/anyone who walks by. I admit I always get startled by her lol…

I caught Mimin posing on the fireplace mantle yesterday afternoon. It’s not furniture but hey, if anyone can break the rules it’s me. 🙂

Sunday hangouts at a restaurant

Posted on Sun, 11 Sep 2016 by KiM

I was in Montreal Thursday to get the remainder of my lace tattoo sleeve completed (a word of advice – don’t get your elbow tattooed) and we were going to stop at a restaurant to eat a decent meal but then ended up just heading home and eating crap at a truck stop. Now I’m kicking myself for not having tried Fiorellino. This Italian restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. That graphic floor, all the spectacular lighting, those chairs…. And if the food is anything like the interior, then WHOA. Designed by Atelier Moderno (previous features here and here).

I snuck in a before photo. Because OMG.

A compact + modern apartment in Moscow

A contrast of white plaster and raw, rust-washed concrete. Painted brick counterbalances sleek kitchen cabinetry. A simple, bright, modernist approach was taken by architecture firm Crosby Studios with this 590 sq ft Soviet era apartment. The addition of plants throughout make this an A+ home in my book.
