As I prepare this post ready I am packing my bags and booking a flight to San Francisco because I am moving in!!! This house is amazing! Thank you to interior designers Lisa and Tiffany of MANSFIELD + O’NEIL for sharing this project. Our clients loved their prime location in a sylvan setting of the Bay Area (Marin) hills; however, they rejected the suburban aesthetics of the former house and were tired of its dark, compartmentalized interiors. The complete remodel transformed the house into a light-filled, open plan jewel-box of a house that now delights the family and fosters gracious California indoor-outdoor living. The furniture and finishings are edited and modern, but still approachable and family-friendly, accommodating two professional parents, twin teenage boys, and a lively dog. The focus of this project was on quality of space, materials, and finishings – not the quantity – and it’s restrained footprint and interior epitomizes clean, considered design. You may be able to get away with anything in Malibu, but what this home lacks for in typical Malibu OTT style or modern to the extreme is made up for in retrolicious funk. I would prefer this any day, anywhere. The Archers making spaces deliciously good once again.

My favourite Ottawa shop for modern home decor goodness is The Modern Shop. I have visited this shop on more occasions than I could ever count and have spent more money here than I care to calculate. 🙂 The other day owner Michael Shaikin suggested the husband and I stop by for a visit as he had just finished a makeover of the shop – he didn’t need to twist my arm! Some walls painted black, floors painted in Farrow & Ball’s Calamine (like my dining room – WOOT!), and super fabulous and funky wallpaper (Studio Job Alt Deutsch Wallpaper by NLXL)…it’s fresh and fun and looks fantastic! Plus he used my wallpaper/painter guy who is amazing so Mike owes me a serious discount on that Moooi rug I ordered I think for hooking him up. 😉

It was tough to photograph the pink floors properly in this light but the photo above is a decent attempt. Looks gorgeous with the Era Lounge Chair by Normann Copenhagen.

Tom Dixon accessories. SO HOT.

Jonathan Adler accessories. SO FUN.

A little bit of this, and a little bit of that.

Stuff and things.

I love this shot. It’s lighting HEAVEN! Hellooooo Tom Dixon etch pendant!

About A Chair by Hay Denmark – a sweet alternative to Eames chairs

Liiiiiiiights!

Wall stuffs

HELLO! (This rose coloured Framed Mirror by Muuto is SOOOO pretty!)

I love everything Ferm Living.

Wall of chairs and stools. Stools and chairs.

I have been lusting after this Flos Taccia lamp…

Ok. I reeeeeeally want this Offcut Counter Stool by Tom Dixon. Imagine it in the corner of my living room against my Farrow & Ball Downpipe walls. The neon orange is UNREAL in person.

A light I have been dreaming about since the dawn of time. Ingo Maurer Lucellino lamp.

A Normann Copenhagen classic that I bought Jo years ago and shipped to her in a care package yet I haven’t bought myself one. Krenit bowls.

I have a set of these bottle grinders by Menu designed by Norm Architects and they are by far the best set of salt & pepper grinders I have ever owned. GET YOURSELF A SET!

More Ferm Living. I bought one of these brass hexagon pots recently to use in my kitchen to hold large utensils.

I just love Cortney Bishop and her creative, eclectic, edgy style. We have featured several of her projects and each time I gasp in delight. Yes, YES, YAAASSSS!!! This beach cottage is another stunner. Bright white walls and ceiling to create a simple, bright backdrop to funky furnishings and graphic patterned curtains and pillows. The art in the living room could not be more perfect in this setting. What a fantastic little cottage!

If you would like to participate in the Monday’s pets on furniture series please send photos, your name, location and a brief description to kim[@]desiretoinspire[.]net, or hashtag your photos #DTIpetsonfurniture. Thanks!
This is our Chihuahua girl, Bambi, on our outdoors armchair enjoying the warmth of the afternoon sun (with the help of a jumper!) and resting comfortably on the sofa amongst her favourite cushions.

This is Somio, one of our 3 cats, testing the softness of the brand new sofa. Him and his tail seem to appreciate it, and he’s ready to plan his day with his favorite activity: sleep!

I finally had time to get my guest bedroom painted and I LOVE how it turned out. I’ll have to get some photos of it ASAP since it’s the only room currently 100% completed in a slew of projects we’ve been working on over the past several months. As soon as I made up the bed Bernie and felix made themselves right at home.

This isn’t showing my pets on furniture but it is the entire herd in one shot so I had to share. You have no idea what a rarity this is.
