Bus roll envy

Posted on Wed, 6 Aug 2008 by midcenturyjo

One of my favourite things is a vintage bus roll. Love them! Have several. I used to find them in flea markets in the old days but now it’s eBay. It looks like I have competition. Jennifer from Atlanta emailed. “I fell in love with the destination rolls and got one on eBay from London!!! I put stretcher bars together for my frame and stapled fabric to the sides. Then I used upholstery nails to tack the sign to the frame. I thought you’d like to see the finished product!!!” The upholstery nails are brilliant. If you’ve tried to stretch one of these babies you’ll know there is not much spare fabric on the sides. I am so jealous of your roll Jennifer. Great destinations and fabulous job! (And from what I can see of your house, it’s fabulous too!)

Too often we focus in on modern, midcentury or vintage boho here on Desire to Inspire. Today it’s time for something just a little more traditional. L.A. designer Amy Devault mixes old and new but with a traditional, elegant vibe. Her work is simple yet ornate, multi-layered with luxury finishes, glamorous and classic.

New work from Buckingham Interiors

Julia Buckingham Edelmann isn’t only a talented interior designer, she’s absolutely lovely. Julia emailed to thank us for featuring her work last week. She was particularly taken that DTI readers from 25 countries dropped by her website to admire her portfolio. It’s amazing the reach of the internet isn’t Julia? Kim and I still get goose bumps when we realise that all of you come from far flung corners of the world. Best of all Julia let me know that she has a new project just up on her website. It’s a rooftop greenhouse project that she and her team turned into office spaces. Love the fun quirky touches! Thanks Julia!

William Abranowicz

Favourite of the shelter magazines William Abranowicz is also held in high esteem in art photography circles. His work hangs in collections around the world and he’s taught at the Parson’s School. I know I know we all think a great photo of a fab room is high art but you should really jump on over to William’s website to see his amazing personal work. (These photos in the meantime are from his rep’s site.) Whether editorial or art his portfolio is stunning. I was lost for what seemed hours in his inspiring work.

Retro time!

More retro inspiration to start your week. I’m really enjoying House & Garden Guide to Interior Decorating, The Conde Nast Publications London, 1967. So much is so right now – and so much is so not! Yes that is 3D bacon and eggs on the wall.
