Heart Attack and Vine Cafe

Some might call it retro revival. Others would say it was paying respect, paying your dues. Heart Attack and Vine Cafe is a newcomer on the Lygon St strip, a Johnny-come-lately to this iconic row of Italian eateries and nightspots in Melbourne’s inner city Carlton. Pizza and red wine, espresso and dolce, men who have been mentioned in criminal enquiries and nonne with saintly demeanours. This cafe by day and bar by night with design by Nicky Adams fits in seamlessly and stylishly.

Beautiful bespoke cabinetry is the hero of this modern apartment. What was otherwise an empty white shell of the cookie cutter ilk is enriched by the custom walnut pieces providing ample storage for the family. Design by Brooklyn-based firm Workstead.

A light box for living

The brief was simple “In a leafy family-oriented part of the inner-west, to replace a fibro cottage with a stylish roomy new family home, that maximises the benefits of the northern aspect, is full of natural light, can breathe naturally and adapt to the needs of a young active family.” The solution is simply stunning. Breeze Block

This redesign of a post-war brick house by Sydney-based Architect Prineas has created an open plan contemporary living space while still retaining the charm of the original. The hero of the place? The breeze blocks. A striking and stylish retro pattern repeat. Love!
