Stalking modern in a terrace house

Posted on Tue, 14 Oct 2014 by midcenturyjo

OK. I know. It’s another old terrace house with a modern extension and an open plan kitchen living area. It’s modern architecture not only added on but it has seemingly insinuated itself through the house’s  old bones. I know the purists will hate it, those who cherish historical restoration and those who herald modernism. I know. I know. It’s an architectural chimera and I love it.  I’m stalking the cheek to jowl terrace houses of Darlinghurst, Sydney and I couldn’t be happier. Link here while it lasts.

A master suite

A touch of contemporary luxury, a Japanese riff, a hint of Art Deco, sadly not enough photos. A master suite in a Beecroft house by Sydney based D’Cruz Design Group.

Latest from Graham Atkins-Hughes

It’s not that he doesn’t take great photographs. It’s not that the houses he shoots aren’t amazing. No what makes me love London based photographer Graham Atkins-Hughes‘ body of work is his understanding of mood and atmosphere, space and light. How we inhabit spaces and, as the viewer of his photos, how we react to them. Oh and the photos are great too and the houses amazing. Here is his latest shoot, Art House of Hackney.

Stalking on a Saturday

Posted on Sat, 11 Oct 2014 by midcenturyjo

I have a small band of readers who share my addiction to real estate stalking and send me links. You know who you are ladies! I hope I haven’t created a monster though. Apparently this stalker can actually see this building from her desk. Is the virtual becoming the actual? Just kidding. On to the apartment. Love it. The art, the views, even how it has been shot for the campaign. Stalking in Surry Hills, Sydney. Link here while it lasts.

Gelati spotted rooms of fun

Posted on Fri, 10 Oct 2014 by midcenturyjo

Neither Kim nor I have kids. It goes a long way to explaining why we don’t feature children’s rooms on Desire to Inspire. (Besides which Kim’s twin sister Julia has a great kid’s design blog the boo and the boy so why compete 🙂 The trouble is when I came across Petite Vintage Interiors by Belinda Kurtz I started oohing and aahing and gushing. I stopped short of wanting to have a child. I’ll just have me some of the gelati spotted, vintage fun instead. I wish my room had looked like this when I was little.
